If Joe Blogs was being spoken to and two different reporters ended up reporting Joe as saying two totally opposing positions that in my opinion would raise the alarm bells.
So who could possibly know that "Jez has repeatedly told the police that Gerry is innocent"?  Was it his wife?  She could be a party hearing these repeated conversations.  Could it be Jez himself making that claim?   It is hardly likely to be the police making that statement.

What is clear is that Jes Wilkins didn't say it to any newspaper. If someone else had said it they would have been named. It seems to be a random statement with no source whatsoever being quoted.

So do you think any part of it is truth, or is it all propaganda?

 "TV producer Jeremy Wilkins was on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal in May and spoke to Gerry McCann during the hour when Madeleine went missing."  If they had used the word found missing I'd say that was true.  Otherwise how does the author know when Madeleine went missing.

 "Mr Wilkins said he found Mr McCann calm and unflustered during a 15-minute conversation which took place while Mr McCann was on his way back to the resort's tapas restaurant after checking on his three children."  Can't be confirmed.

 "Mr Wilkins has repeatedly told police he is convinced of the McCanns' innocence." Appears to be a self promoting statement.

I can't prove it but when anonymous 'friends' are quoting I think they may or may not exist. The description of Jes' reaction therefore may or may not be true. What is true is that he played tennis with Gerry the same day that Madeleine disappeared, so the 'friend' wasn't all that well-informed.

I wonder if the expression the day before covers the actual situation that you describe too.  Jez, I believe, was Jewish and their day finishes at sunset.

OK the text is 100% the same but the photos are different to what I remember.  Each photo has been cropped to take the other person out of the photo.
