I try and research every statement I make.  So I know you have the names confused it is Bogart that is "the raving sceptic".  Colombo does not express a view either way.

Maddie couldn't have left via the sliding door.

Kate, with Gerry's assistance, explains why it is impossible, even theoretically....

Interviewer:(@22.50)

"Why did you Kate, why did you think immediately that she was abducted & hadn't wandered out of the apartment or gone somewhere?  Why was that such gut reaction for you do you think?

Kate McCann:

"There was absolouteley no way a 3 year old could open those shutters & the window"

Interviewer:

"Simple as that"

Kate McCann:

"Simple as that you know and people you know obviously saying 'you know are you sure she didn't wander off' I say well the shutter was up and the window was open, I'm not lying about that, and even if they want to say theoretically, 'oh she wandered out the back of the apartment', then they're basically saying a three-year old has opened the long curtains, closed them behind her, opened the patio doors, closed them behind her, opened the gate at the top of the stairs, closed that behind her (GM interjecting: 'with the child lock') and done the same at the bottom... you know it's just not... it's not possible."

So was the purpose behind leaving the patio door unlocked just laziness?
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.
I gather the facts, examine the clues... and before   you know it, the case is solved!"

I've mentioned this before but I'll repeat myself for the benefit of new readers.

Any intruder entering or exiting the apartment, via the sliding door, would have to also complete the actions described by Kate.

Closing the curtains, door, child gate & gate behind themselves.

A fastidious abductor.

A fastidious abductor.

Or an abductor who did not want to leave any evidence of his means of entry  - or to give any clue to Kate or Gerry who on finding all the above open when returning for a check - would realise that someone could be in the apartment.

IOW an abductor who took every precaution to avoid detection.

IMO
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

I'll copy part of the post above "Simple as that you know and people you know obviously saying 'you know are you sure she didn't wander off' I say well the shutter was up and the window was open, I'm not lying about that, and even if they want to say theoretically, 'oh she wandered out the back of the apartment', then they're basically saying a three-year old has opened the long curtains, closed them behind her, opened the patio doors, closed them behind her, opened the gate at the top of the stairs, closed that behind her (GM interjecting: 'with the child lock') and done the same at the bottom...[I.e closed that behind her] you know it's just not... it's not possible."

It is the 4 instances of closed that behind her that Kate finds impossible IMO.

IMO

Wasting time closing the door & gates, opening the window & shutters, increasing their time spent in the apartment & in doing so, increasing their risk of being detected.

It only makes sense if you must have the presence of an abductor.

I take it you accept that Matt closed the gates and doors properly.  Would the same apply if another of the Tapas friends checked the apartment after Matt did?

According to Kate, he must have, since she found things the way she  did.

No one else checked  after Matts said visit & Kate finding Maddie gone.

See Dr Payne's statements. He played investigator with regard to the status of the child gate, gate & door.

That was a good answer but what would happen if there was another visit that someone doesn't want to own up to?
So where you say "No one else checked  after Matt's said visit & Kate finding Maddie gone" it could be "No one else owns up to checking after Matt's said visit & Kate finding Maddie gone".

You say "Matt's said visit" in a way that you might even doubt it happened.   Do you doubt "Matt's said visit"?
What is one thing that Matt says about his visit that really confirms to you that it really did happen?

There was no other visit

Kate found everything as described.

It is libellous to suggest otherwise.

The end.

In my opinion Kate is rather honest.  I have no doubt about what she found but IMO with my research on the case I do believe MM left by the front door but that door is a door that can't be closed by her for she would have needed the key. Some one else in my theory needed to have closed that door. It is not a crime to close a door.
