You say the evidence is very strong
Then why did the archiving report all but rule out Woke and wandered

They chose to use the term unlikely.  However, as has been seen in many other cases, the unlikely can very much materialise.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

"However she left the apartment, she's been abducted".

I actually interpreted that as meaning "dead or alive".

Dead or alive, walking or carried.

Real experts are (in my opinion!) notoriously reluctant to commit themselves to any damn thing.

In the trial of Ian Huntley, the prosecution wheeled in an expert to comment on Huntley's claim that the two girls he murdered, Jessica and Holly, had actually met their fate in Huntley's bathroom; one girl having tripped, fallen into a bath Huntley had run to wash his dog and drowned; the other suffocating while Huntley held his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming.

The expert witness did a pretty expert job of demolishing this scenario as 'unlikely'.

But at the end, asked if he thought Huntley's scenario impossible, he replied no.

Huntley was convicted on a majority verdict.

Perhaps one juror felt Huntley should be accorded 'benefit of the doubt'?

True experts for you!

Drives me mad.

I have long held the view it'll end with a simple statement along the lines of person or persons unknown removed Madeleine from 5a leaving no clue as to her whereabouts.

I think it's a little more complicated than that. IMO the police have several clues, e.g. phone records, people & vehicle movements, etc, providing a trail. However, until they can actually definitively & forensically place Madeleine herself anywhere in that trail they have no hope of ever securing a conviction or locating her present whereabouts.

Nota bene, he didn't state she was abducted from the apartment. Sounds like that comment was picked well before it was shovelled.

?

Did Madeleine leave the apartment dead (in the arms of what would, then, be her murderer, rather than her abductor.)

The sole questionmark over abduction.

They may well have several phone records, people and vechicle movements whether these are actually clues into the mystery remains to be seen.

Not the sole question, the other is did one occur.

Do you have a cite for that Brietta.

Besides, the UK system is irrelevant in this case, as the crime , if any occurred, took place in Portugal.

In my opinion the UK system is entirely relevant on a thread discussing Scotland Yard's investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance and the difficulties involved in having a case discarded abroad opened in England.

There are more than 1,000 unsolved murders in the UK, some going back several generations. But what happens when the trail goes cold on a murder or a missing child ? Detectives never completely close the files of unsolved homicides or missing children. They simply keep hoping that one day they will be given fresh information that may lead to finding the killer or that child.

AC Mark Rowley's interview details that system in operation in Madeleine's case which was a cold case.  He has noted there are still active lines of inquiry being pursued making Madeleine's cold case an active one.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

But in the quote you used he states the UK,this must be the first and only one in a foreign land not of a dependency of the UK surely.

I take it you Maddie? true but the dogs alerted to something, that something is unexplained, but we'll never get to know imo because SY won't be issuing any statement when its wound up.

Rowley said there was no definitive evidence that Maddie was alive or dead
That rules out that alerts
Are you assuming the alerts were to cadaver
You cannot make that assumption

Sorry if I have confused the issue, the quote I used in reply to Stephen did not come from the Rowley interview, and I am not too sure what your post is saying.

AC Rowley was giving information on a running Scotland Yard investigation in the run up to the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of a British child abroad.
A separate investigation is being conducted in Portugal ... and the close cooperation of law enforcement was emphasised in his interview.

Does that cover it?

I'm not assuming any thing, the dogs alerted,to what as never been explained nor will be imo.
