https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phe4fmgnewo  David Jones (of Fireman Sam fame & owner of the Mirage restautant)
David Jones says that SM struggles to get work. SIL has already told us that he is doing very nicely with his estate agency business.
He is also employee of 351 Media  ( http://351media.com/)

Kickstarter appears to involve an upfront funding scheme.

This is the correct link to the fundraiser, started by his colleague at 351 Media https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dmitrylaier/madeleine-mccann-collateral-damage

I don't know what SM was involved in or what will be revealed in the book. All I will say is that the timing of this book is a little strange with no empathy for Madeleine or her family being expressed in the trailer.

I have not met Mr Malinka.  We did try on the last Luz Tour, but we were told he was out on business.

I have not met Mr Jones.  My better half has met Mr Jones and was at one time trying to do a business deal with Mr Malinka, but the latter did not come to fruition.

I recognise a couple of the locations.  Both are very near his estate agency in Lagos.  I assume that he was hugging his mother and father, but that scene was far too quick for me to be sure.  The other scene is an island for ducks in a lake about 200m away.

I hope that he manages to accrue the necessary funding to proceed, despite the fact the book will not be available until June 2018. I am seriously interested in reading his version of events.

No. The general gist is he appears to want to provide an uncensored version of what he suffered at the hands (or mouths) of others.

And he wants someone else to pay for it?

Secretarial support, maybe?
I imagine there will be a cost even to offer an e-book for free on Amazon.

The pledges pay for a copy of the book when it's released. If the target isn't met by 19/12/17 the book will not be published & no money will be taken from those who have pledged. Thereafter, it will be up to the author to fulfil his obligations.

Clearly there are things which can be published in Portugal which wouldn't be legally permitted here.
