Ronald (Butch) Defeo shot and killed 6 members of his family during the night (3am) back in 1974. Butch has claimed many theories as to why he did it-self defence, insanity and being high on drugs. It inspired the films 'Amityville Horror'.

Iv studied this case loads. he also says that his sister Dawn, was responsible for the murders of Marc, John and Alison, De Feo changes his story too much.

As for the Amityville films, they were based on what the Lutzes say they experienced when they moved into Ocean avenue  after the DeFeos had been shot.

Yes, there certainly do seem to be parallels. Main difference seems to be that Bamber has never changed his story.

DeFeo has never denied killing his parents, but has said that his sister Dawn killed the others, though at one time he did say he shot them all!

Butch does make quite a few stories up as to how his family died including the sister doing some of them, in a new programme I saw about him today a psychologist says Butch has a personality disorder-I don't think we need a psychologist to tell us that one.

Ah...but he did!  He changed his story when asked whom he had telephone first, the police or Julie.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

That's true, I'd forgotten that. Was a significant part of his undoing I think.

Is the " Sheila shot herself using her toe" coming back into fashion?

Defeo like Bamber was a fantasist and had delusions of grandeur.
Defeo has had years to concoct another bullshit story in order to shed the blame and this is yet another trait he shares with Bamber along with the [ censored word]ocial personality disorder.  In fact if I didn't know better I would have said that Bamber modelled his murderous scheme on what Defeo did eleven years earlier.

At the time of the DeFeo massacre I don't think RD Jnr was living at home or visiting so he had to let himself in.  He was then able to move from room to room killing family members without them leaving their beds.  It seems neighbours who were awake at the time only heard the dog barking:

All six of the victims were found face down lying on their stomachs in their beds with no signs of a struggle. The police investigation concluded that the rifle had not been fitted with a sound suppressor and found no evidence of sedatives having been administered, leading to speculation that someone in the house should have been awakened by the noise of the gunshots. Police officers and the medical examiner who attended the scene were initially puzzled by the rapidity and scale of the killings and considered the possibility that more than one person had been responsible for the crime. Neighbors did not report hearing any gunshots being fired, and those who were awake at the time of the murders simply heard the family's dog, Shaggy, barking.

Here are the layouts showing the sleeping positions of the 6 victims shot in their beds.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

I have never been convinced Ronald "Butch" DeFeo Jr acted alone in this crime. But its possible. Since he keeps changing his story we will never know. It was an extremely dysfunctional family home with a very abusive father.

"Butch DeFeo has told at least a dozen different versions of the events of that fateful night. Some of them have been downright ridiculous, including his claims that his own mother, Louise DeFeo, was involved. However, the one common thread to all of DeFeo's stories include reference to his sister Dawn being involved. To not investigate Dawn’s alleged involvement would be to ignore a huge facet of the story, so yes, it was examined extensively, along with other versions of the murders."

There will always be conspiracy theorists amongst us David but at the end of the day the parents were found in their bed each having sustained 2 gsw's and the four children/siblings also in their respective beds each having sustained 1 gsw.  There's no evidence of struggles or blood stains and bullets/casings elsewhere.  It seems cut and dried to me.  If you read the Wiki page it seems investigators and the medi examiner thought initially someone else was involved as they couldn't understand how RD jnr could single handedly be responsible:

Police officers and the medical examiner who attended the scene were initially puzzled by the rapidity and scale of the killings and considered the possibility that more than one person had been responsible for the crime.

65 Every Street and WHF show it is possible albeit these socs had 1 less victim and messier socs.  I think the sound of firearm discharge might be reduced within confined spaces?

I think Scipio has looked at this case in detail and concluded RD jnr alone was responsbile.

Interestingly initially RD jnr tried to blame a hitman!

Most family shootings involve some sort of dysfuntion rather than greedy adult children looking to fast forward an inheritance:
