I can't imagine why you might think I approve of anyone threatening the McCanns or anyone else. I don't see why it's relevant to my point either, unless you are suggesting it happened due to irresponsible reporting?

Beyond whatever one thinks of the childcare arrangements, yes, IMO, there has been very irresponsible and inaccurate reporting, on both sides of the small pond and beyond, none of which would have been likely to calm down potential vigilantes.

Even recently, diners in a certain US restaurant are damned lucky they weren't all massacred by a wannabe hero who believed a false rumour that then gained sufficient traction as to be taken as fact.

In a desperate attempt to contact the PJ she rang a BBC editor who put the PJ in contact with her.  I only hope the call back to here from a PJ officer was not some hoax.

 But what I can't understand is why didn't Karen send off the pictures she took to the family to the  police or the McCann web site. Oh  she didn't take any for evidence? aw that's a damn shame so it is. Tsk.

First time she was there without a camera, on her return trips she did not she the girl playing outside, and the caravan was covered in sheeting on the outside.

An unnamed BBC editor with the time, interest and knowledge to persuade the PJ to call her? A fact that she never mentioned before? Yeah, right.

Any reporter reports what a witness tells them.  Is it always going to be fobbed off as hearsay?  I spoke to her and I am telling you what I heard her say.  That is not hearsay.

Could you give me the URL of the article you are referring to please?  I'm finding there are articles that were not found in my Google search the other day. 
The only text I have with the word invited in it is "that they were on holiday with two other families.
And that they had invited the world’s press to help in the search".   I'd say that is not what you were talking about, is it?
