Officers found all windows and doors either locked or secured from within. It was later claimed a window existed that JB could have exited securing it shut from the outside but no one for the defence, judge or jury had an opportunity to see how this worked in practice.
I'm no expert on this case nor do I think I need to be. I have entered the discussion from the perspective of the recent ITV drama, being familiar with the murder case at the time and from reading some of members' comments on this board ... in one of which you noted ...
"For over a month the investigation proceeded as 4 murders/suicide." and during which time having 'solved the case' without giving thought to other scenarios, the house was cleaned and valuable evidence must surely have been lost as a result.
Therefore a monumental screw up.
I can't answer your question as to why he would remove blood from the gun barrel for the simple reason I didn't claim that he did.
As far as the entry point to the house is concerned the scratches on the window matching the saw blade found outside were only found when someone looked for them.
Just as the faulty catch on another might have been noticed if all the ground floor windows had been given an intensive inspection.
But no-one was looking at an intruder entering and leaving. The murder/suicide conclusion was adopted before all other options had been properly tested which, in my opinion very nearly enabled a murderer to walk.
