Welcome, GS.
I tend to agree with your opinion. The people of Peterborough would have been far more inclined to vote for a person who had demonstrated he worked for the benefit of the community rather than the benefit of the serving government.
Thanks for the welcome.

Good point.

But unless the selection committee tells us what swayed them, it is speculation.
True, but again, speculating, if there were doubts, then surely he wouldn't have even been considered and got as far as he did. Unless there were only three candidates in total.

The tories held the seat for twelve years then lost it in 2017 by 600 and a few votes.
I doubt the selection committee looked much farther than "which candidate is most likely to deliver"[my speculation].

Clarence worked for a government which allowed open doors to immigration. It has been reported that Peterborough is the worst-affected UK city of that policy, which is surely a matter the committee would have taken into consideration if only by association. People have long memories.

Let's face it, Clarence Mitchell is tainted by virtue of the people and organisations he represented in the past. His utterances on behalf of that despicable bunch of shysters at Cambridge Analytica alone earned him no brownie points imo.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.

You could be onto something there VS, maybe there is a place for him with Labour?

I don’t think even Clarence would stoop so low as to join the LP as it currently stands.

I disagree he has allinged himself with some people who needed 'front of face ' person. That type of person would be great for LP. but then they still have their own' *******'
