Many of those who post their comments on online newspapers,  post their comments on Madeleine forums and sign petitions rarely keep their criticism to the neglect issue.
Many continue their spiteful bile with comments accusing Madeleine's parents of being involved in her disappearance.
Much of this continued belief is due to the unproven and malicious, IMO, thoughts of Amaral.

That doesn’t answer my question.

If the public do read his book they will find he doesn't accuse the McCanns of drugging their children. He discusses the possibility, but reaches no conclusions.

But surely by raising that possibility he has brought such a possibility into the minds of his readers.
And then this possibility has become much more than a possibility in the minds of many.
Is it morally right to do this without any evidence at all?

Why not?

This was the question.

Don’t you think the parents are responsible at all for the way the public feel, especially about the neglect issue ?

A yes or no answer would suffice though a fuller answer would be appreciated.

In the early days of the case, before the parents were made arguidos and before Amaral’s book,  I believe that 70% of those who voted in a poll believed the parents should have been charged with neglect. A more recent one found the same. So it would appear Amaral’s conclusions have had little effect in terms of how the parents are viewed.

I did mean was it morally right for AMARAL to raise these possibilities and leave many who do now regard these as truths, without him having any evidence.

That's just nonsense.
Many people have criticized the parents child care arrangements.
Most of my friends and family have done so but they do not continue their criticism into pointing the finger at Madeleine's parents for being involved in her disappearance.
That finger pointing exists because of Amaral.

You do seem to place an incredible amount of faith in these online polls!

In my opinion that is just rubbish.
There were plenty of theories around about their culpability long before Amaral wrote his book.
That's one reason that the Mirror forum was shut down - again IMO

So you agree that the parents unpopularity existed long before Amaral made his thoughts known and, for reasons other than their alleged part in her disappearance.

I would say that the possibility was in people's minds long before Amaral even started his book. It was put there by the UK media. In my opinion the behaviour of the media was far more morally reprehensible than Amaral's. They printed rumours, he documented the course of the investigation.

'Without any evidence at all' is your opinion, by the way, which others disagree with.

There were many theories indeed.
So did the drug theory precede his book?

These theories were limited to those who were sufficiently interested to post on online forums but his book delivered his unproven theories to a much wider public and since then these theories have taken root in the minds of many.

No I don't agree but let's leave it there.
You ignore points raised in my posts, and then continue with your quite frequent way of responding to a post by beginning your reply by" So you agree that......"  when in fact I have not.
An unpleasant way of posting IMO

That's not right.  Amaral's conclusions did have an effect on how the McCann's were viewed.   Do you think these people say 'Read Amaral's book'  because the parents were neglectful?

I remember seeing 100% DNA of Madeleine in 5a on the front of newspapers,   I thought then the McCann's must be guilty,  it wasn't until later that I found out that actually no there wasn't 100% DNA found of Madeleine in 5a there wasn't anything at all.    Then Amaral writes his book and he says the DNA and cadaver alerts prove Madeleine died in 5a,   well I know that isn't true as I follow the case but what about all the people who don't? They read his book and knowing he was the Police Officer who dealt with the case,  they think what he says is correct.   I have seen it actually written in comments in the paper that Amaral is right,  read Amaral's book.

Do you really not know whether the'drug theory' preceded Amaral's book? I find that difficult to believe, but a google search will provide the answer.

I admit to not having an encyclopedic knowledge of all the details of this case.
I won't bother googling but thank you for your help.
