Even the police can't enter without permission or a warrant.

Yes they can..if there is a reason... Fire etc... Child in danger or distressed

A very fine line; a crying child isn't a reason to enter.

In your opinion... A distressed child is... Imo
Unless you feel a child left unattended who is crying is in no danger and should be left

Back to the opening post....

Yes, especially in this case given Portuguese law whereby all evidence is released into the public domain post case closed.

The PJ files contain all relevant wit stats along with info from police officers, experts and forensics all of which are easily accessible via the internet.  Plus the internet allows us to perform numerous other tasks eg Google maps to consider key locations etc, etc.

Solving a crime is no different to solving any problem which is something we all do everyday ranging from the small eg where did I leave my keys to bigger problems in the workplace etc.

I don't think it's possible for a non-professional to solve the case as they cannot properly investigate the original Portuguese investigation team. IMO there were two separate crimes & the first cannot be solved before the second has been proven.

Holly: “The best theories are surely those where the facts do not need to be strained?  Do you have any 'minor details' in mind?”

I doubt that any complete theory from a member of the public will solve the case. By means of triangulation though, authorities may be able to study some detail(s) across theories to advance the case e.g theories x, y and z all mention a grey/dark blue car parked close to Madeleine’s bedroom window during the evening of 3 May 2007.

Hi Anthro.  I've looked at enough of these cases now to know that the "authorities" are not all they are cracked up to be eg Knox/Sollecito (Italy), Bain (NZ) and many high profile historic miscarriages of justice in the UK.

In this case, with a lack of leadership and oversight its all to play for imo.

Must dash I want to watch international footy ko 7.45 pm Bulgaria v England.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

I don't think the police would respond if telephoned and told that a child was crying in a property.

Don't know. But I'm sure the moral reasoning would outweigh the legal implications, or at least mitigate them.
Would you smash a car window to help a dog dying of heat exhaustion? Depends where your moral compass is I suppose.
The police in the States call it a welfare check.  Probably better to have authorities involved as they have the tendency to shoot trespasses over there.

I never said they would... I explained that trespass is not a criminal offence... As you seem to think

I remember when I popped to the petrol station for some supplies... My 10 yr old son thought he was on his own with his two younger siblings and phoned the police.. The police came... Climbed over the fence and entered the house through an unlocked door... My wife was in fact upstairs in the shower and hadn't come with me

Jeezuz H.  None of you can even agree on anything that happened when, let alone how or why.  You can't even agree on a Day.

It has always been very simple to me.  Someone stole a child with some knowledge aforethought.  The risks were to great for otherwise.

Yep, I do have a theory, but not something that I am prepared to talk about because I am not so arrogant as to assume.

But there is no way in which that child would have been stolen by some potential child abuser when such children are two a penny on the streets of anywhere.

The continued assumption that The McCanns had anything to do with this leaves me nearly bereft for those of you who do.  Heaven alone knows what must have been done to you all for you to think of such.

The first thing the police do is ring the doorbell or knock. I've seen it on one of the police programmes. A neighbout phoned to tell them two children were home alone.

They may well do but if no one answers they enter

Isn't that a rather stupid question?
