...and that's how you get back on topic.
What's the definition of 'cleared'? 'Barry George' cleared, or 'OJ' cleared?
Let's settle the terms of reference.

Good point.

Apparently the police can tell people they are no longer of interest, so they could be said to have been cleared of suspicion.

Scotland Yard announced there was no evidence to implicate the four men and the case against them had been closed.

I found this;

Portugal’s state broadcaster RTP says that detectives have discovered “fundamental evidence” relating to prime suspect, German paedophile Christian Brückner, but these claims have not been verified by police.

Previously, police sources told the Telegraph that because the German authorities are running the investigation, the Portuguese police will only conduct searches if they are requested to do so.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/07/10/portuguese-police-search-wells-near-praia-da-luz-body-madeleine/
So does that mean if someone walked into a Portuguese police station with information of this crime committed in Portugal and where possible evidence or a body may be found the police would do nothing until the Germans told them to investigate it?

The PJ never announced that the case was closed; the McCanns could have had it continue on request.

Amazing.  So in Portugal it’s up to the chief suspects to decide whether or not the police should continue investigating them.  What a larf.

Three of them were supposed to be the main players in the supposed burglaries, not even a hint to a link to the german suspect.

Just as the McCanns were cleared of suspicion when the arguido status was removed.....not suspects according and no evidence  against them... That's cleared.

What most don't realise is the SC didn't say they haven't  been cleared

Have I missed something?

I think that you are confusing Anthro with me, but you have gotten my thoughts all backwards on.

Still that seems a pattern that you have established

Can you explain that criticism a bit better Sadie?
