Probably because he saw a man carrying a child who's description fit Madeleine McCann perfectly, and he thought that man was Gerry McCann.

It would be most interesting to know who started the rumour that Mr Smith changed his mind about who he saw that night.

Probably the same person who tried to change initial reports by the parents- it was like sitting in the garden or Jimmied shutters, or JT passing Gerry and Jess and seeing the 'abductor', leaving the door unlocked so MBM could go get help,then saying she wouldn't leave the apartment.. oh so many things...

Nothing new I'd venture, trial by media, it was him wot dunnit, concrete evidence said Wolters 9 months ago, its seem's like reading around he's waiting for some one to confirm the alleged phone call to the phone registered to CB, actually had CB on the end of the said  phone.

Are you suggesting Brueckner lent his phone to someone?  If so, why would this person answer a half hour long phone call?

I'm not suggesting anything, how can it be proved CB was actually using said phone, this is such a high profile case, circumstantial will not cut it imo.

The suspect is believed to have been using a Portuguese mobile phone, with the number +351 912 730 680 on the day Madeleine went missing.

The phone received a call in the area of Praia da Luz from a second mobile number, +351 916 510 683, from someone not in the area. They want the person who made this call to come forward.

It really depends on what evidence Wolters has. Personally I cannot see him claiming MM is dead unless he is sure.
As Ive said he may well have this evidence but cant 100% prove CB is involved but is fairly sure.

One of two thing's, the phone call wasn't important and gives CB a legit alibi, thats if he indeed was around there at that time or the caller has no wish to implicate CB.CB seems a maverick, a loner, is it really thought he's done for Madeleine and evaded capture ever since, yeah right.

It depends what other evidence wolters has. I think his team must be very confident for him to make his claims

You never had a problem with the legend being written re the McCanns even though Amaral didn't have any real evidence
