If your question could be answered as easily as you seem to think we could dispense with lengthly trials for defamation, couldn't we?

Well in the OP was detailed guidance about libel.  If you think anything is libel how does it compare to what Carter-Ruck said?    In particular, if the same criticism was more than a year old no claim for libel will succeed.

Even the most offensive of people can be offended by what is written about them, as was shown in 2012, when Frankie Boyle won over £50,000 in a libel case involving the Daily Mirror branding him a “racist.”

Being called a racist is just about the worst thing you can call someone these days, especially a left “comedian” like Boyle.

The extreme view would be we can't say anything bad about anyone else.  We might hurt their feelings and cause damage.  But I don't believe the world operates like that.

I don't expect anyone to always tell the truth, but if I call them a liar I need to be able to prove it.

What impeachment trials for each possible liar.   I think for public figures if you feel they are lying just say so.  They can take the hit.  It is part of the job.

Well as we’re not sitting in  a court of law perhaps you could just give a moderator’s view of the rules pertaining to libel on this forum and which of the statements I describe breaches them.  Ta awfully.

Look up top.  " Libellous or defamatory material will be removed on sight"  But what I wanted to work out how am I to determine what is  Libellous or defamatory material.   I'm not a lawyer so how do I decide.

Is it just the simple test "Would you want the things to be said about you?".
