The German announcement was the 3rd of June.

From Daily Mail article posted earlier.

‘Mr Wolters said the first letter, dispatched at the end of May, confirmed that German police were treating the case as a murder, while the second was sent last week to update them on the investigation’

The parents didn’t get any letter until the 12th of June as confirmed by SY.

‘Amid the war of words between British and German police, a spokesman for the Met said this afternoon: 'The Met received one letter from the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) on June 12, which was passed to the family.

'The letter did not state that there was evidence or proof that Madeleine is dead - the Met continue to investigate Madeleine’s disappearance as a missing person ’
You are making an assumption that SY had not already told the patents

He informed the world at the same time as the parents. Do you really gives a hoot about their feelings?
You don’t, so why do you keep pretending to be outraged about it?

An assumption based on the available evidence.

Wolter says that a letter was sent before the press conference. The parents didn’t receive it yet it he didn’t even check that the parents were informed before telling the world that their daughter was dead.

What absolutely shoddy behaviour.

So relying on a newspaper article. It says Wolters didn't send the letter.. Someone in his office did. Probably sent  to SY who didn't pass it on. Nowhere have the McCanns said they were not warned re the announcement

Relying on direct quotes.

No letter was sent before the announcement, that much is clear.

The parents said the didn’t receive a letter with proof or evidence that Madeleine was dead. SY said that the letter they passed on to the parents nine days after the announcement contained no evidence or proof that Madeleine was dead.

I know who I believe.

Perhaps there was an urgent need to get the public appeal out there. They had CB in custody but he had appeals in the pipeline related to the rape conviction and was getting close to applying for parole on the drug dealing sentence.

We'll never know whether the revelation that Brueckner was suspected of murdering a child influenced the outcome of those appeals.

On the other hand it may have been damage limitation due to the premature release of information by Amaral that the prime suspect was a German paedophile currently a prisoner in Germany.

Snip
The ex-cop sparked speculation Hamburg-born child strangler Ney was the prime suspect after telling an Australian podcast earlier this year investigators were focusing on a German paedophile in prison.

He failed to identify Ney by name at the time, describing the suspect only as someone who had been ruled out of the investigation into the missing British youngster in 2008 but later jailed in his home country.

Now Amaral, the original lead investigator in the case, has fuelled new speculation about his identity by telling a Spanish TV programme: 'A paedophile who is German and serving life for killing children has been spoken about.

'What I know is that the suspect is not him, it's another man. He's also in prison in Germany. He's also a paedophile.

'Years later, many years later, it appears that in an Internet chatroom there is a conversation between that person and another person where they talk about Madeleine.'

Police in the UK and Portugal, who are leading separate investigations into Madeleine McCann's May 3 2007 disappearance from the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz, declined to comment on Portuguese reports around the 12th anniversary that investigators had a 'new lead and a new suspect.'

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

It was so long after Amaral's interview with the Australian it was unlikely to be a response. As to 'damage limitation' Wolter's public declarations revealed both the weaknesses of his case and his disregard for the feelings of the child's parents imo.

I have to agree. It shows a total disregard for the parents suffering and is extremely unprofessional by British standards.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

I totally disagree and see it as a weak attempt to undermine Wolters credibility by those who simply refuse to believe that an abduction could have taken place.
Wolters has been investigating CB for several years and SY will have been aware of their conviction that MM is dead for some time. I'm sure that SY would have kept the McCanns updated and that the announcement came as no shock.
Amaral had already leaked the info that the Germans were investigating a German paedophile and believed him to be the perp.

As I understand the letters were som0ly to explain why the Germans could not disclose their evidence. These it seems were sent via SY.

I see Wolters as professional and competent and have seen no evidence to contradict this What I do see is a campaign by sceptics to discredit him which we have seen before directed at anyone who supports the mccanns

What I find quite laughable is sceptics’ newly discovered concern for the feelings of the McCanns.  Where was their faux outrage when Amaral got rich off the back of a book and numerous TV interviews in which he outright claimed Madeleine was dead, that he could prove it and that her parents covered it up?

Have these sceptics not realised that if Maddie died in an accident that they covered up then whatever Wolters said would not affect them.
