COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Body camera footage from other officers released Wednesday in the fatal police shooting of Ma’Khia Bryant, a Black teenager who charged at two people with a knife, showed a chaotic scene that happened within minutes of the verdict in George Floyd’s killing and ignited outrage by many over the continued use of lethal force by police in Columbus and the U.S.

As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting as @ColumbusPolice killed an unarmed 15yo Black girl named Makiyah Bryant. Another child lost! Another hashtag. ✊#JusticeForMakiyahBryant

That Knife you saw the young lady threatening to stab another woman with, you imagined it. She was in fact unarmed.

😢This is Ma’Khia Bryant. ⁣

A child. ⁣

She was 16, actually. ⁣

And like all kids her age, she liked making hair care videos showing off her routine. ⁣

Trust me - with 4 daughters I see them all the time. ⁣

And today police shot and killed her. ⁣

I don’t care what happened. ⁣

Had her life mattered to the police, they would’ve found a way to see to that she helped instead of harmed. ⁣
..................

He's literally willing to ignore the knife in her hand directed at another human being, the black woman she was about to stab, her black life doesn't matter. Only her assailants.

Shaun King Facebook.

Lord give us strength. ⁣

16 year old Ma’Khia Bryant called the police in Columbus, Ohio for help. Neighbors said she had a knife because she was being assaulted herself. ⁣

This man right here rolled up and neighbors said he started shooting her almost instantly. ⁣

This literally happened as the verdict was going down. ⁣

You’d be hard pressed to EVER find a white girl this age killed by the police. ⁣

I am heartbroken. I have a baby this age. It’s too much. It’s just too much.

What Shaun King fails to mention is that even if Ma’Khia Bryant had armed herself for self defence, she was not acting in defence when going to stab the other woman. She was the aggressor. It's very clear from the video.

Here is the video in slow motion for anyone who is in any doubt.

The officer did right to shoot her. Another perfect angel nutter with a deadly weapon. It's the same story everywhere in the US, the poor criminals are getting the better press.

Basketball Star & BLM supporter LeBron James has deleted a tweet in which he posted a picture of the officer who shot Ma’Khia Bryant along with the words 'You're Next' an egg timer & the hashtag #accountability.

He has made no apology for his deleted tweet instead preferring these excuses...

"ANGER does any of us any good and that includes myself! Gathering all the facts and educating does though! My anger still is here for what happened that lil girl. My sympathy for her family and may justice prevail! 🙏🏾✊🏾🤎👑"

"I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police. I took the tweet down because its being used to create more hate -This isn’t about one officer. it’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY"

I thought it was good shooting....

HIGHLY TRAINED Ma’Khia Bryant shooting latest updates – Cop Nicholas Reardon who shot black girl, 16, is military-trained marksmen

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/14718880/makhia-bryant-shooting-latest-updates-knife-nicholas-reardon/

At a vigil held at Ohio State University on Wednesday, Katlyn Anderson told WCMH that the injustices are so common, communities are becoming numb to violence.

"It's hard because I’m a black girl myself and it’s just hard seeing ... our people are dying for no reason,” she said. “It’s unjust. It’s not fair.”

(Another person who watched the video & saw an innocent unarmed black girl, not attempting to stab someone)

Roaya Hijazi, a senior at OSU who organized a protest on Wednesday, said there is "no excuse" for killing Bryant, "no matter how you spin it."

"There's absolutely no way to any of us to excuse it and we want Ohio State to stop legitimizing the Columbus Police Department."

(And even if she was going to stab someone it is not an excuse to shoot her, apparently)

I'm glad these idiots aren't cops.

For the moment, it's not clear to me whether she was attacking or trying to defend herself.

Whichever version turns out to be correct, I don't see why the officer shot to kill. She could have been stopped by shooting her somewhere that wouldn't be lethal. I also don't understand why tasers aren't used in preference to guns, when the alternative is available and appropriate.

Get lost with your defending herself nonsense.

She was attempting to stab a woman who was recoiling in defence, she was being the aggressor.

I'm glad the officer was there to save that woman's life.

But, but, he should have used a Taser!!

Tasers are unreliable up to 40% of the time.

You only get one shot.

........................

In 258 cases over three years, a Taser failed to subdue someone who was then shot and killed by police.

In 106 of them, the suspect became more violent after receiving the electrical shock, according to a review of case files and media reports, suggesting the Taser may have made a bad situation worse.

For the weapon to work, a lot has to go right.

First, an officer must hit the target. Tasers simultaneously shoot two barbed darts attached to thin, electrified wires.

Both darts have to hit the target to deliver a debilitating jolt of electricity. Each dart must strike within an inch or so of the skin — or better yet, penetrate it — to create a complete electrical circuit. If someone is wearing a heavy coat or loose clothing, the electricity may not arc into the body enough to lock up muscles.

Where the darts hit matters, too. They must be at least a foot apart from each other when they hit someone for the electricity to flow through enough muscle to reliably incapacitate the person.

Instead of doing the sensible thing, aiming for the largest target (that being the fat girls body), & shooting until the threat has stopped,  i.e. until she fell & was no longer lunging with a knife at somebody......he should have taken pot shots at her legs in hope of hitting her & her dropping the knife, or maybe shot the knife out of her hand like what they do in the movies.

Liberal 'comedienne' Kathy Griffin believes knife fights are just a part of growing up in any school or neighbourhood. I'd love to believe as a comic she was joking but she isn't even that funny.

I'm not sure what neighbourhood Griffin grew up in or school she went to but they sound dangerous.

Kathy Griffin @kathygriffin. 21 Apr

WARNING. How in the hell does this police officer think it’s a good idea to fire shots blindly into a group of teenagers having a fight. Yes one of them has a knife. Oh, that never happened in your school or neighbourhood? She didn’t deserve to die. 16 years old. #makhiabryant

CNN's Don Lemon & Chris Cuomo actually agree the shooting was justified!!!

“We have to be fair about what happens when police arrive at scenes,” Lemon said, as reported by Newsbusters. “It is tragic that it’s a 16-year-old girl. Just as it is tragic that it’s a 13-year-old in Chicago. When police are chasing people, they don’t know how old they are. And they don’t run and say, ‘How old are you?’ ‘Oh, I’m 13.’ You don’t know that. Or, ‘I’m 16.'”

“When they roll up on the scene, they see people tussling around. Someone has a knife,” he continued. “And their job is to protect and serve. Every life on that scene. And if they see someone who is in the process of taking a life, what is that decision, what decision do they have to make?”

To those who would say the officer should have used a taser, both Lemon and Cuomo agreed that a taser would likely not have worked at that distance and in that amount of time.

“Tasers, they don’t always connect. So, you’ve got to get two prongs or what have you, and it has to connect to whatever,” said Lemon. “I see it, if the woman in the pink was my sister, niece, wife, whatever, you have to make a decision. Is one life on that scene more valuable than another? And if someone is trying to take a life, on that scene, do you protect the life of the person trying to take the life, or do you protect the life of the person who’s life is in imminent danger at that point?”

Cuomo and Lemon expressed sympathy for the officer and that he must live with the fact that he killed a 16-year-old girl to protect someone else.

“I feel for the officer. You can hear it in his voice,” said Cuomo. “When he said – the man on the side was saying, ‘You shot my baby, you shot my baby.’ And he said, ‘She had a knife. She went right at her.’ You know, this is something that he’s going to have to live with also.”

Cuomo concluded that police are essential and that they do have to protect people at certain times.

“The analysis is only of the instant circumstances. I’m saying, if you want to have this contextual conversation that people seem to want to have about what else we can do, people fight with knives all the time, do we really need cops?” concluded Cuomo. “The answer is no, learn how to control your kids, and don’t be so violent and we won’t need cops. But that’s not our reality. And cops get called to our lives all the time for the worst situations.”
