There are of course cases where the use of force is necessary. The issue seems to be how much force in different situations.

However, in the case of the stabbing girl, a shot in her fairly ample bum would probably not have killed her. At the same time, if he'd hesitated, the other girl could have been killed.

I read the Minnesota is going to go through a thorough review of practices, training, recruitment, etc. Seems a sensible idea.

I wonder if recruits go through psychogical profiling? Just as paedophiles tend to be attracted to jobs involving jobs with kids, some people with issues around violence could be attracted to the police or the military.

He didn't have time to shout many commands & had to act, it isn't clear when he first saw the knife.

I wouldn't say I'm excited about the case, I just won't stand for outright nonsense in defence of a knife wielding maniac who slashed at one woman & went for the throat of another.

Black lives matter, which is why she had to be stopped.

I'd have shot her as well had I been there.

And had the British police been there the only option they would have had would be to attempt to tase her, which may not have worked.

Had an armed British police unit been met with the same scenario, they would have been right to shoot her too.

At this point the officer was saying 'hey hey' then 'get down', 'get down'.

It's unclear when he first see's the knife.

Ma'khia, after flooring the first woman, turns her attention to the woman in pink, she rushes at her, knife ready & the officer must either react or just let what happens happen. He is trained to react.

I believe he acted appropriately & responsibly, a taser may have been ineffective & the threat to life was imminent, there was no other sensible option.

He wasn't excessive in the force used, he shot until she stopped posing a threat & no more.

I'd agree that the girl needed to be quickly incpacitated (from what I've seen so far), but did it require a shoot-to-kill?

He didn't shoot to kill.
He shot to stop.
He shot whilst she was a threat & stopped when she dropped the knife.
Shooting her in the legs or arms would require unrealistic precision, her big fat ass could have been an option but officers are not trained to aim for the ass.
And again, shooting the knife out of her hand Clint Eastwood style is the stuff of fantasy.
The police called an ambulance immediately & rendered some first aid.
If they wanted her dead why bother?

In the same scenario in the UK with only a taser as an option, pink lady may well have been stabbed in the neck.

There is new footage & audio where Ma'Khyia is heard saying "I'm going to stab the f..k out of you bitch" during the altercation.  I will post this tomorrow as it's bed time & I'm using my phone rather than lap dog.

Given what has happened recently I guarantee that most US police officers will think twice before shooting anyone now unless their OWN lives are threatened. Because at the end of the day, if they don't shoot someone they get to go home and get on with their lives.

I think the US public are going to be the losers in all of this.
