Yes of course it takes time to finish his sentence and apply for parole . That's the procedure he will have to follow as he won't be released with his conviction quashed  , assuming he's ever released it will be as a convicted child killer.

I don't know that much about him and haven't watched the interview with Sandra Lean. Looks like he has lots of support.
