In an essay on the Luke Mitchell and the Megrahi cases a blogger wrote, "Unlike other western countries where everything is disclosed to the relevant parties, Scotland has often found ways round the disclosure of information that the prosecution finds inconvenient. The Crown deal the cards. They talk about ‘meeting disclosure obligations’ but do so in whimsical ways." https://www.jmgale.com/post/lockerbie-and-the-lord-of-the-flies

Even if Mr Mitchell is guilty, there will still be a number of deficiencies in the Scottish criminal justice system, such as disclosure regarding DNA, as discussed by Allan Jamieson.  Those shortcomings can result in wrongful convictions until someone puts reforms into place.

Mitchell has managed to persuade a solicitor to appeal his right to parole. Regardless of the outcome, it will not over-rule his guilty conviction. Many similar killers have been released on parole on similar convictions, but LM was deemed to be a danger to females by the parole board in 2024 due to observations made while incarcerated.
