there was no file called "evidence log".  The other complicating factor could be the blanket was given to the GNR whereas Amaral worked for the PJ.  Would that mix things up?

If police are working to a chain of evidence, surely that must be logged ... somewhere or other?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Ask Numi. He had it last.
I was wondering that too.  Could they have given it to the dog as a dog blanket.   ?{)(**

Oprah is quoting something that Kate had previously said.  Kate doesn't deny having had previously said that.
But you are right the actual words on the video were from Oprah.

The context appears to be that Oprah wanted to raise the point of hoping that she was being cared for.

The source of the Oprah team's research on that point may well be this:

But Kate wasn’t buoyed. From time to time, she would turn to friends and offer a wishut upl half-plea—“I hope whoever has Madeleine is giving her blankets … is feeding her properly … is keeping her warm.” Not really absorbing at first, her confidant explains, “what kind of person this was.”

http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2008/02/mccanns200802

The point that the unnamed "confidant" raises is the same, whether Kate ever mentioned the word "blankets" or not.

This then got twisted by Amaral and the tabloids. And Amaral's pal Sargento inferred that the McCanns had used it as a shroud. And that this "admission" was somehow new "evidence" that was going to get the case reopened to nail the parents.

And, again, how many people would bother to check the files when it's much easier to simply believe so-called "experts"?

And what happened to that blanket after that?

It depends when the photos of the apartment were taken, because the blanket was in the photos. All I know is they were taken between 1am and 4am.

Possibly, or it simply got lost or thrown away at some point.

Pathetic

I think some seem to find the concept of giving a dog something to sniff then handing it straight back hard to grasp.

I asked my friend who trained tracking hunting dogs and she thought the tracking team would hold onto the blanket to remind the dogs what they were looking for.  I've no real expertise on this topic myself.
But maybe they didn't keep it then you could be right.

The dog who sniffed the blanket wasn't really a tracking dog, he was primarily a patrol dog with 'some' training in tracking. It was a long shot using him and his handler may not have known or followed procedure. The tracking dog's handler did. He kept the towel he was given in a plastic bag to preserve the scent.

Perhaps this was it? Although why anyone would leave such a clue lying around in full view escapes me.

Former South African police superintendent Danie Krugel is haunted by the muddy pink and white child's blanket he found at the site in Praia da Luz in Portugal where he believes the body of Madeleine McCann is hidden.

Was the blanket somehing like this, I wonder?

The Portuguese deployed air-scenting dogs.

They didn't deploy ground-scenting dogs.

Are these words used in the reports?
I tend to think you are wrong.  They might not be fully trained but they were still capable of some ground tracking.

If I am wrong, then so is Mark Harrison, who said the Portuguese deployed air-scenting dogs.

And the dogs the Portuguese deployed were from a search-and-rescue division (that's in the files).

Search-and-rescue work is undertaken by air-scenting dogs.

Also, there is a section in the GNR dog-handling report detailing a debate between GNR and PJ officers about whether it would be worth giving the dogs something of Madeleine's to sniff.

That conversation would have been redundant if these were ground-scenting dogs, because ground-scenting dogs can't work any other way.

Wasn't it put in a plastic bag so that it could be used to reinvigorate the dogs later on?

That was the towel, John, given to the actual tracking dogs from Lisbon who arrived at 11pm on 4th, they kept it and reused it twice more on; the 8th definitely and a couple of days later when they entered the apartments.

I'm afraid the thread has moved on from your [dogmatic 8)-)))] claims ferryman. Perhaps you should read it? If you do and wish to repeat your claims you will need to provide evidence to support them, because the evidence already provided makes it clear that tracking dogs were brought from Lisbon.
