According to Jeremy his father telephoned him from White House farm some time around 3.20am in a distressed state and told him that his sister Sheila had gotten hold of one of his guns and had gone berserk. No evidence exists to corroborate this claim and Essex Police have confirmed that Nevill Bamber made no such telephone call. The only person to telephone them that morning was Jeremy Bamber himself.
The Prosecution’s case however was that Jeremy Bamber had pre-mediated the murder of his family. After finishing a day’s work on the farm and after taking the .22 Anschutz rifle out to shoot rabbits, he left the gun out, and and went home. At some time between midnight and 3.00am he had cycled the three miles back to the farmhouse in the dark by cycling through some lanes and fields. The farmhouse was securely locked from the inside but he was able to climb through a small window. This feat he had repeated a short time after the murders when the house was again supposedly securely locked. It was clear that Jeremy Bamber could effect entry into the farmhouse even if the doors were locked.
Police received and documented a telephone call around 3.26 am from Jeremy Bamber reporting the telephone call from his father at White House farm. The police records reproduced below document this information being processed by the police.
