Plenty of pointers, Alice.

Perhaps the strongest one now, is that SY seem to believe it

I am happy to trust them

I also have my own set of pointers which I am unable to share.  Soz.

I believe Madeleine was abducted.  I also think it likely that both Madeleine and Joana are still alive

Do they really?. What is there apart from DCI Redwood being misquoted on this forum?

Does anyone know anything about the white haired man Stephen Carpenter talked about in his rogatory interview?
According to that rog:
Provided some flashlights.
Had just purchased one of the multi-apartment blocks just north of block 5.

Your post says there was no RM born in Aldershot in 1938 does it not? Well there was!
I am not on face book as it is inhabited by nutters and trolls  8(>((

It does NOT say that at all, Alice. Read it again& again. NO McDonald, NO Robinson 1938 Aldershot.
Roderick MACDONALD 1938 Aldershot, married a Kristina Birgit Todtenhaupt in Aldershot in 1969. Found him & his links on F/B with the Todtenhaupts - there are photos of him too, and he is defo not the paedophile.
PS -  I actually know one of his contacts as she used to live across the road from me years ago. Small world.

As the spelling of his name in the press seems to be a moveable feast the presence or otherwise of an "a" would not be much to hang an argument on. Nonetheless Mr MacDonald(McDonald) is reported to have said his mother was Maltese (see earlier posts on this thread).
The Roderick MacDonald born in Aldershot Sept. 1938 was born to a mother whose maiden name was Kiomall which name is Maltese in origin.
Coincidence?
I don't dispute a Roderick MacDonald married a Kristina-Birgit Todtenhaupt but unless you have copies of the birth and marriage certificates to compare his fathers names and professions you cannot be certain it is the same person. A common failing with amateur genealogists.
Of course we could have a nice conspiracy theory that some nasty person has nicked someone elses identity and is familiar with their life history.
All very interesting but probably little to do with Madeleine McCanns disappearance .

Yes ... but there were concerns expressed about him both in the previous statement referred to and in the rogatory statement.
I wondered if he had been traced and eliminated from the enquiry.

>>snip<<
SC: Yes, because Raj in particular said that he felt there was something strange and that he was not certain, and the fact of where they were staying, the fact that the back of the apartment block was opposite Kate and Gerry's apartment, humm...and the fact that they even discussed the purchase price and how much he had paid, but the following morning there was no sign, even knocking on all the doors of the apartments that were occupied and those that were empty, we did not find anyone, he said, and that is why we thought it was strange that someone who had been available and collaborated in the searches and who lived in the area, was not found the following morning, because as you know, we were not contactable.

DCF: No sign of him and you remember that you were worried about this man who was described as being fifty years of age with grey hair.

SC:Ah ha.

DCF: And it seemed strange that a person who helped so much on the previous night disappeared the following morning.

SC: Yes, I suppose there was something that even the local Portuguese would be incapable of identifying (inaudible) or recognising for the description of a poster especially.

DCF: Who it was.

SC: Hummm.. then it was just a question of asking who he might be, where he was and to be able to eliminate him from the list of suspects, so that he would be at least one less person to worry about.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Oooo, Alice, I think that you are wrong.  I think that SY are playing a blinder.  I think this man, whatever his name is, is VERY interesting

Now a question, can anyone answer it please?.

1)  Was it in the press that SY now have the DNA of their main suspect?

There was another question, but damn it, I have forgotten it.   8**8:/:   Time for bed

You steal someone's identity - you do a little research. A fact on the internet - MacDonald had a mother with a Maltese name- you drop it into conversation. The real MacDonald is 5000 miles from the UK.
The man was bound for the UK on a stolen passport. He had unopened mail in NZ in two different names. Perhaps he is of interest because his boat was in Lagos marina around the time Madeleine went missing and then departed. Who knows? SY want him for something a little more than a 5 minute abuse of 2 girls.

...
The only reason those witnesses seem to give for suspecting him is that he had just bought a block but did not live there. That seems obvious to me, someone who buys a whole apartment block is unlikely live in it either before of after, but is likely to live in a house somewhere else. So their suspicion is illogical. BTW he is probably who kindly provided the flashlight seen in fathers hand in a very early appeal?

8@??)(
Spot on misty.

Having him incarcerated in Malta (so that he couldn't escape?) then bringing him all the way back to Blighty.

SY are on to something big, imho

Oh, I have thought of that second question, which eluded me.

Was it somewhere in the press that he said he should have said something [to the police] before?

Offline pegasus

The reason for detaining him was absolutely nothing to do with the PDL case. Someone once again has been feeding the UK press fictional ideas (just as they did with the swiss man, and just as he did with the man who was dying in germany).

*snip*
Today DCI Andy Redwood hinted his detectives will attempt to interview McDonald.

After months of ’No Comments’ to reporters trailing him during his regular trips to Portugal, Mr Redwood said when asked if he wanted to question McDonald as he left the Coimbra forensics HQ: “Not today.”

When MacDonald was arrested in a dramatic swoop on his flat on the Maltese island of Gozo on Monday he told detectives: “I should have spoken about all this years ago.”

Stephen Carpenter was there and he was worried about this man's disappearance from the scene … if you read his statement you will see that as a direct result of his concerns regarding this man he insisted that as many properties as could be accessed were searched and enlisted assistance to do so.

This was because they overlooked the McCann apartment.

He also makes reference to a garage used by an employee of MW who he referred to as the laundryman where there was a bed and incongruously, children’s toys.

He did not mention borrowing a flashlight from the white haired man, so that is uncharacteristic supposition from you … but since when did lending a flashlight exonerate the lender from anything?

There is much in his statement which warranted further investigation, including the laundry van he mentioned, I wondered what if anything had been checked out; but particularly if the white haired man had been identified and eliminated.

SC does not say the garage was used by an "employee of MW",  and BTW there is a laundry in town which is nothing to do with MW.
The other man (grey) provided some flashlights. Therefore it seems likely that he provided the flashlight we see the father holding turned on in the very early TV appeal. (BTW we have a statement from an OC employee who was asked to provide flashlights could not because he had none).

It was an indian name that his mother had. but many of that name lived in Malta and then a lot emigrated to Canada etc.
A Macdonald  who was in the 2nd wrld war  had 3 sons, one of which was adopted, so possibly?
Rod (whatever) was born 1st july 1938 according to his passport. The sept date could be christening or cross over.
This macdonald... fought in the eastern war and a lot were stationed in Malta. The Maltese took a hammering poor people.

Anyway, if he was the son of a married Macdonald, I don't think Rod could know that his adoptive Dad was his real Dad and he thought his mothers name was macdonald because it is beside her maiden name,  if he did know, that was the case why did he tell some neighbours that he was adopted by Robinsons and where did the name robinson come from.......There is a fair chance that he has more names and passports used apart from the one to NZ and UK. We shall have to wait and see!! He doesn't look like a 76 yr old.
