Erm... perhaps because the "blue tennis bag" had been all over the tabloids prior to these interviews, perhaps?
Surely that's the obvious answer?  Perhaps the "sceptics" have another, less obvious one...?

Thanks Carana yes the responses to questions re tennis kit in that rog interview are a direct result of those press and TV reports which came out in Dec 2007.

When martin brunt, crime correspondent for sky, mentioned it in his documentary, in dec 2007, did coldwater tell him? Or the pj? either way did someone just "make up the existence" of a blue sports bag?

IIRC Pegasus found the first public mention of a blue sports bag in an anonymous comment after an article in the Algarve resident(?) in Sept 2007. It's on this forum somewhere but I don't know where.

Pegasus will undoubtedly still have the link to the comment.
It's rather like the anonymous poster who knew exactly what Mrs Fenn was going to tell the police about the crying child a month before she made her statement.

The first mention of a blue bag or case was early August.

LOL, I knew you'd remember. Do you still have the link - the forum search doesn't bring the right post up - but the comment was in Portuguese or Spanish wasn't it?

The early Aug 2007 comment is gone from web now.
It said something like "a sort of blue suitcase" or "a kind of blue bag"

A reinforcing subliminal message was still being sent out in the years following 2007 ...

**snip
GA: I do not believe that he was looking for crabs nor searching for a live daughter. According to Moita Flores, it would be important to return to this area, I believe so, even because there are people who continue to say today that the body might be around here, and continue to give information about places. It should be looked, the police should make searches, they should reopen the process and resume the investigations. There is much to be done still.

09:44 Cut to Studio

JP: Hernâni, I hand over to you the first comments.

HC: The question is, following that thesis regarding the hypothesis that the girl was carried in a bag…

JP: In a golf bag.

HC: In a golf bag or in a sports bag, the question is...

JP: Let me just show the picture. [Behind HC and GA there is a flat TV screen, Gerald McCann carrying a Golf bag is shown] Here it is, Gerry McCann with the golf bag, I have to stress that this picture was taken by a British photojournalist, Brian Bould.

HC: Without prejudice, I am not saying that it was Mr. McCann, it's different. What I am saying is, in the hypothesis - which was one of the theses at that time - that the girl was taken from the bedroom, carried inside a golf bag, or inside a sports bag, by whomever made her leave the bedroom, and then carried her through the golf field to the cliff... We already know, and it is not difficult to understand, that is not possible to throw a 30 kilos2 body from that point, because the body would never fall inside water, never. With a small rock, a rock with the size of a hand, it is impossible to toss it into the ocean. So, the question is, would it be possible for the girl to have been kept hidden at the cliff area and then be taken from there?

GA: It is possible; indeed that is the thesis, the conclusions that are reached by the police until September of 2007. That the child’s body was kept somewhere. In the first night, the body was taken from the apartment and placed somewhere, and it was not detected. The searches made that night were to find a living child not a dead one. Then later, we know, because of the indicia, we get that information from the indicia that was found in the car rented 20 days later, that probably a body, a cadaver was placed there and it was likely Madeleine McCann. The FSS handled the information…
Taken from Joana Morais blog
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Look for Madeleine area or Burgau Burgau beach, a few km from Praia da Luz is within a kind of blue suitcase weight is close to the edge of the beach, looking lose nothing. Thank you.

In December, there were contradictory reports in PT media: one was that the PJ were looking for a bag, the other was that they'd had it in their possession for ages.

This is hilarious.   The McCanns get made arguidos in early Sep 2007.  Then an anonymous seer says that there is a heavy blue suitcase in Burgau or Burgau beach, near to the edge of the beach.  And that they (presumably the Portuguese police) lose nothing by searching for it.

At least I know the provenance of the blue bag theory.

Regarding that hypothesis: the child was not hidden in a bag on the first night. If later moved a bag would be used. You would have to check for a bag missing or a purchase of one.

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.
