The Madeleine McCann investigation has advanced little in the nine years since the unfortunate youngster disappeared whilst on holiday with her parents in the Portuguese Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

Several age progression images have been created and published since 2007 (some depicted below) in an attempt to find the missing girl but to no avail.  If Madeleine is still alive she will have reached her 13th birthday in April, is it now time for an updated image to be released?

Kate thinks Madeleine never left Portugal and thinks a third age-progression image would help to find her.

The McCanns may have a new age-progression image of missing Madeleine created.

Mum Kate fears no one will be able to recognise Madeleine, who would turn 13 next month.

The move comes as the British police hunt for her is winding up.

There were images of Madeleine in 2009 as a six-year-old and in 2012 when she would have turned nine.

The cost involved in creating an age progression image is very small, indeed, there are various software packages on the market capable of doing that very thing.

My recollection of what I've read is that it's better to leave age progression to qualified specialists with the timing of any release determined by the investigating police force within the context of a prepared public appeal.

Assuming that there is an ongoing active investigation into your missing loved one.

Tabloids commissioning any "artist" that they happen to stumble upon to sell more copies could be very dangerous for the missing person in question. Or even for someone who might be a vague "lead" concerning a "suspect".

I'm looking at the photos under: "Can you tell which is which? In tests, people were unable to discern between real and rendered images".

The elderly men (right-hand side) all look identical to me....

If the McCanns were still serious about finding their missing kid it certainly doesn't come across that way.  I have noticed that information relating to Maddie has begun to fade from the media in recent times so could it be that her parents have started to face the horrible possibility that she is no more?
