You are making presumptions about guilt and innocence again Mercury.  You are very biased.
Nope
You seem to have a problem with comprehension

The idea that innocent people don't have to worry about police tactics designed to trip them up and extract potentially incriminating evidence really is quite laughable.  How many innocent people have been charged and tried for crimes they didn't commit over the years?

Nope dont start twisting and dont bring innocent into it as it doesnt figure at all

IF police suspect someone they are within their rights to ask trick questions, any questions

Questions by police never convicted anyone

Courts did

So I suspect you (of attempting to implicate innocent people in a crime they didn't commit.)

What 'trick questions' can I (legitmatey) ask?

As many as that! That is shocking.

Look at it the other way.
Up to 9% of guilty parties get away with it.
Based on the "beyond reasonable doubt" yardstick we have. I posted a paper on it a while back.
Well off topic here but if you want "shocking" checkout the full reason for Ruth Ellis being handed a death sentence then compare it with modern life.

.....
That fact makes it even worse when you think about the criminals getting away with their crimes able to do the same or worse again.

its common sense which seems to be in short supply. The mccanns were asked to sign a statement they did not understand. There is no record of what they were told was in the statement. very poor police work and legally worthless

So no cite then.

So how do the police know who is innocent?

Statements taken during an investigation in Portugal;

Your statements can be produced as evidence, but they only count as an admission of guilt if they are made before the Magistrate.
The written record of your statements made during the investigation may only be read in court at your own request or, if they were made before the Magistrate, if there is any conflict or discrepancy between them and the statements you make in court.
They may also be read to the court if you choose to remain silent in court.
