I would say any new book will be more damaging since it can be based on known events.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

How can it be any more damaging than the last book?   &%+((£

Not the last book but "The Truth of the Lie" which was based on a thesis rather than known established facts.

How can a book about the established known facts be MORE damaging than his libellous thesis?

Possibly by being published in Portugal to a Portuguese audience.  This Portuguese audience is largely ignorant of what went on in Crimewatch 2013, as it did not get aired on Portuguese channels.  And quite clearly Amaral can write that OG put Smithman on the menu and suggest that one of the e-fits looks similar to Gerry.

He could also claim, whether true or not, that his desire to get the Smiths back to obtain further information was to include an attempt to construct e-fits, but this got blocked by his removal.
What's up, old man?

What does he have to write about?

The old myths he may have had a hand in creating are recognised for what they are.  Times have moved on in Portugal with the Oporto team working alongside Scotland Yard to find Madeleine's abductor.

I don't think there is a lot of mileage left in continuing excoriating the McCanns when that is taken into consideration.
Will his target audience tolerate purchasing a book which doesn't cover that ground?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

He has already done that, Shining, and reprised it continually in numerous media appearances.

You have just covered it in a couple of sentences.

Maybe I have a higher opinion of Portuguese readers than you when I say he is going to have to do much better than that.

As Amaral revealed to the Portugal Resident last weekend, "The McCanns problems are of their own making" or words to that effect.  The full story of what went on after Madeleine's disappearance has never been revealed in a book. Consequently Amaral will have a wealth of material to choose from, the ace up his sleeve I believe was the term he used.

What "known and established facts" are more damaging to the McCanns than a thesis that they dunnit?  Come on, you made the suggestion, now put up these facts!

What known and established facts as aired on Crimewatch 2013 could possibly be damaging to the McCanns? !  Amaral can suggest that in his opinion one of the e-fits looks like Gerry but so what?  It has not been established that the Met believes Smithman IS Gerry, so it's only his opinion, not a fact.
