Mark Warner takeover date of the Ocean Club
« on: July 03, 2017, 03:37:08 AM »
Does anyone have an accurate date for the takeover of the Ocean Club by Mark Warner?

From Crossland's statements, it appears to be somewhere around the end of 2006 or the start of 2007.

This impacts 2 currently active threads.

Rat lady Margaret Hall seems to claim employment by MW before MW took over.

Reported warnings by diplomats about ne'er do wells seem to have occurred before MW took over.

Is there anything concrete about the takeover date?  I cannot imagine MW whacking out travel brochures, putting in place new check-in procedures, dropping in a new registration system, unless they were a few months ahead of the bookings we see in the PJ Files.

According to Crossland the negotiations took a year from early 2006. He's not clear who actually bought it; European Leisure Holdings Ltd or Greentrust S.A.

In January 2007 European Leisure Holdings Ltd signed the contract to buy the Ocean Club. Their intention being to assign the contract to another company and to convert the cost into a loan, which they did. The other company would be Greentrust, S.A. which became active in February 2007.

The ELH information is in the accounts to 31 Oct 2006, item 16, post balance sheet event. Other details can be found in the accounts to 31 Oct 2007, including the loan amount;

There is a review of a Mark Warner holiday dated July 2006.

Snip
We did eat at the a la carte tapas restaurant but preferred the selection and quality of food in the millennium.

The Mark Warner staff were superb. The childcare facilities were great and when our son was ill they couldn't have done more to help.

There was also continuity of senior staff working in the resort.

For example, Donna Hill was responding to Trip Adviser entries made in 2005.

Therefore there isn't much of an excuse for intelligence regarding security to get lost and forgotten, particularly if it involved a report of a prowler in the garden area of the apartment from which a child subsequently vanished.

Various companies took bookings for the Ocean Club without being the owners. Thomas Cook, Style Holidays, Jonathan Markson and private owners all made bookings. John and Donna Hill appear to remain whoever owns it; they're still there, I think.

What is a fact is that the contract to buy the Ocean Club was signed in January 2007. Those accusing the Ocean Club management of knowing (and hiding) what was said at a meeting in August 2006 need to demonstrate that representatives of the Ocean Club went to that meeting. Otherwise it's just a rumour.

The importance I happen to be thinking of is whether procedural and IT changes were made as a result of the take-over.

Namely booking in those flying from London while they were on an 'MW' bus from Faro.  This made sense when there were large numbers of MW clients arriving at once.  Having them hang around 24hr reception in a long queue on arrival would have been daft.

And it would be interesting to know if the MW arrivals sheet information pre-dates Jan 2007, or if that got dropped in upon takeover.

It was extremely remiss of me not to say thank you for this.

I make such requests not to avoid doing my own donkey work, but merely to see if someone already has the answer.

The only smidgen of info I can add is NIF.  We call that a fiscal number, and you need one (per person or company) for every major contract.

You do not need one for 'day-to-day' activities, like buying goods in shops, hiring a car, or getting a plane ticket, though those on the other side of the transaction will have one (if they are legitimate).

But you do need them for long term contracts.  When our first house rental fell through, we became aware that the 'contract' was dodgy, because we did not have NIF numbers, and they are required on proper contracts.

We are back in the old days of England, when a married couple both had to become guarantors on any major contract, and that is how it works here.

We paid a very large deposit on the house we are moving to, but the house is not in our name, it is in the children's.  The mortgage is also in the children's name, and that required a NIF number for each, which they already had.  But we, the parents had to guarantee the mortgage, so it also has both of our NIFs on it.

The NIF is basically a way of tracking long running contracts, so the correct amount of tax is extracted.

The McCanns might have NIFs for 27 Rua das Flores, but I would think it unlikely.  That would have been treated as a short-term holiday let.

Anyway, having bored you to death with trivia, let me say again ...

Many thanks for your help.  It is much appreciated.   8((()*/

Good luck with that, I can't think how you could find out.

That would involve talking to one of the people in the OC at the time who had access to such systems i.e. in the OC 24hr reception.

I believe I can lay my hands on 2 of them - John Hill and Vitor dos Santos.  But I will not be going to talk to either until both OG and the Oporto effort get archived.  I won't run the risk of interfering with an active investigation.

I have no desire to add the inside of a Portuguese jail to the list of my Luz Tour stop-points.

There are ways to approach both people before archiving.  That's not hard.

But Madeleine will not be on the menu.

I have been thinking of this, so my attitude is never anything to do with Angleterre, or whatever you call it these days.

You might think that you have given yourself free licence, but you haven't.  You are just defending the place in which you live.

I understand perfectly.  I defend France to the bitter end, and I don't care if France is found wanting.  This is where I live. And so shall it be.

I defend Portugal and the Portuguese Judiciary and the people if they are unjustly accused or attacked. I have never been there, let alone lived there.
