She wasn't a public speaker.

An experiment: record a chat between two people and write down a transcript of it. ;) Seriously, try it, just for fun.

She wasn't in a public speaking situation. This was a one to one conversion with a police officer.

We also know what Alice has said a number of times, any errors, if any, are just as likely to be favourable to the McCanns as negative

Yes, I can see that, but there's also context.

At the end of the day, you're judged on results (win or lose). Let's take athletes, as an example. Who is better, the athlete who has had the advantage of a huge professional training team and who wins; or the poor person who has had to train in almost impossible conditions, who did the very best in the circumstances, but who lost the race?

Precisely. Do try that experiment sometime, seriously.

We know that.  This was the point.

What? That she becomes incoherent when speaking to the police?

The drawing was produced by Simon Russell based on a drawing shown to him by the Policia Judiciaria.

Snip
Officers have not released any photofit or artist's impression of the suspected abductor.

But they have, apparently, shown a sketch like this to residents in Praia da Luz.

One of them was Simon Russell, 40, runs a video store and Internet cafe in the former fishing village.

"I smiled when they showed it to me. What else could you do?" he said.

He said the sketch was so simple it was easy for him to recreate, and it is Mr Russell's drawing that is used here.

He described it as looking like "an egg with a side parting".

The fact that such a virtually useless image is being used underlines claims that the Portuguese police are getting increasingly desperate.

"They have got absolutely nothing and are following up lines of inquiry which are barely credible," said a British police source familiar with the inquiry.

It's true that the PJ visited Mr Russell on 9th May. They did so because he contacted them with a story about seeing a car at 22.45 on 3rd May whose female driver he recognised. Yet another story pointing the police to Lagos Marina, it seems.

Russell described the woman's partner as bald, so why the PJ would show him the drawing he produced I can't imagine. No-one else ever claimed to have seen it AFAIK. So who were the DM referring to?

they have, apparently, shown a sketch like this to residents in Praia da Luz.

Precisely. Do try that experiment sometime, seriously.

Another little experiment of mine:

There are 75 "can't remember" in Jane's rog.  Next up is David with 47. 34 for Fiona. 26 for Dianne. There are 19 in Matt's rog and only 13 for Rachael. The least is Russell with 6.

Reply    “Erm, I can’t, I can’t remember, I mean, I, I can’t remember, well I can’t remember now, but I think they were sort of whitey but with this, with this pattern on, but then some pink.  That’s, that’s what I thought at the time.  It’s harder because now I know what the pyjamas were so I can’t”.

It's an accurate transcript.... That is basically what all transcripts of recorded statements  are like...absolutely  normal... You just haven't heard one before... I have and it seems Carana has too

That's Alice's opinion...
And IMO quite wrong

Translational errors will only produce inconsistencies... Which only produce doubt.. Imo

OK then Ace, justify your opinion in a factual manner.

I didn't say it was.
I was saying that your analysis of "errors" in translation and the impact thereof is blx.
No offence intended.
You need to know how the information is used by the system.
It is there to be found .
You said originally: "It does not matter a toss. The average human being is crap at estimating time distance and mass whatever the units."  What you say now has become personal.

What I have said is we just do not know if there were errors... That could explain the inconsistencies
We know that the mccanns have said other things since... Like the open window.... So we know that part was accurate
Yesterday I pointed out two places where Jane complained about translations problems, so it is a bit of a cop out to say "we just do not know if there were errors".

It gave a person's perception a chance of being tested for accuracy.  It was OK.

Thank you. I look forward to seeing posts in future in which you make it clear the these alleged errors are not facts, just something that, in your opinion, might have occurred.

As to the open window, that is something we know the McCanns said, but there is a discrepancy between Kate's description of the curtains at the time and her description of them later.
It would be possible to subject the curtains to a reconstruction test - to see what movement is possible.

But can that be proven?

You will have to provide a cite for that. I can’t see it in your posts yesterday?
