So shall we have a 10 page discussion about her likes and dislikes in ice cream flavours ?
There are some people who seem to think this book should be only about Madeleine so we could criticise Kate perhaps for not including a whole chapter on Madeleine's ice cream preferences if you like?

I have quickly skim read the first three chapters of Madeleine.
So far I have learned that Madeleine loved playing on the swings and slide.
She loved blowing bubbles, painting and visiting a farm where she liked to feed the sheep, swing on a rope and talk to Farmer John.
She enjoyed and was very good at role play, was a confident little girl who enjoyed shared reading.
She loved ice cream and tea biscuits.
She liked to put on her mum's rings and from photographs in the book we can see she spent time with her grandparents.
She was beginning to count, not just reciting the sequence but counting one to one.
She loved the songs, She'll be coming round the mountain and You are my sunshine.
She had a natural curiosity and was very observant for her age.
She enjoyed watching Dr Who with her daddy and played Harry Potter role play games.
In Amsterdam she and her mum went to two mother and toddler groups.
She went to the Park with her mum and to a little cafe.
Sometimes they watched a film and ate cake.
So to say that the book tells us nothing about Madeleine is in my opinion an unfair and untrue accusation.

A whole book and that is all  - so it isn't about Madeleine- although she does get a mention here and there?

People see what they want to see and ignore that which doesn't suit.

Almost all of that lot could apply to any 4 year old, so nothing much to see.

No thank you. I don't feel the need to discuss any  of the trivial items on your list.

What more do you feel you should be told about her?
Why do you need to know more?

4 year olds lead fairly uneventful lives, full of not very interesting detail on the whole IMO.  Imagine a biogaraphy of your own 4 year old - what details would you have filled it with that complete strangers would be interested in reading about?

She probably wanted to write it to give her own account of events.  This was a case with intense public interest and it seems it was quite a successful book even if you found it lacking.

Were you expecting greater details of her personality and achievements?
Having  being the recipient of many pre school reports on children entering primary school, I would have found the  "trivial items" quite informative.

Sadly a lot of that would not apply to some four year olds.

How would you measure its success?  In terms of sales, its impact upon the literary world, or for its PR effect ?

This is a discussion forum  about the McCanns. Some of us discuss the case and the information we have to hand, we de construct- reverse engineer, if you prefer, the stories of those involved , who were there when we were notified that MBM 'disappeared.

It is a fact that supporters feel sorry for the parents and protect their 'feeling's at all cost.  When 'feelings' and behaviours are discussed which contradict the supporters[which in itself is fine] they go off on a tangent.
Accusing their debating opponents  of being 'evil trolls', 'McCANN Bashing'.

You are quite wrong to accuse fellow members of creating threads which are started here with the ultimate aim of criticising and casting doubt upon the McCanns. They did that themselves!

I will not apologise for doubting the McCanns, and sometimes I will criticise where the thread calls for it. There is nothing wrong with that either.
