Brietta you are correct in this instance as Eleanor was clear that it was only her opinion. Snowgirl if a poster posts something as an opinion a cite nor explanation is required.

Still interesting that Eleanor made this post without wishing to elaborate on it, but that is her prerogative in this instance IMO.

Snowgirl however if someone makes a statement and it appears to be claimed as fact then you can request a cite several times. I have done so but many times I have given up before receiving the required cite from one poster in particular. Sometimes forum rules do fail IMO.

You have come on in leaps and bounds since you started posting here much as I thought you might and it is good to see you passing on the benefit of your experience which I hope has been a happy one.

Anyway ... I see you have made a claim which requires a cite ... perhaps you could attach one or several to your post most of which is Off Topic anyway and will probably be edited out.

Not addressed to you in particular but to all members ...

You are new to posting here and may not know that the protocol is that a question may be asked but there is no requirement for it to be answered.

Repeated demands are considered goading.
I assure you I’m not goading !  8(8-))
Thankyou for your reply and advice .

Not sure it is worth providing a cite if it will be edited out for being off topic but I can I you require.

Thank you for the compliment Brietta. So far so good on here for me. There are some lovely posters on both sides of the discussion, and some not so much of course but of course this is IMO.
Members are reminded that cites must be provided in accordance with the forum rules. On several occasions recently cites have been requested but never provided. Asking for a cite is not goading but compliance.

From this moment onward, posts making significant claims which are not backed up by a cite will be removed.

I suspect that Operation Grange already know where Madeleine is, although it would be difficult to extract her from some places while she is still underage.  All in my opinion, of course.

I understand you being optimistic on that front Eleanor but I suspect SY haven't a baldy clue where Madeleine is and all they are currently doing is going through the motions in order to wind up their current investigation.

And given that we know their hands are effectively tied, I don't see that situation changing any time soon.

I don't think it unreasonable for showgirl to ask for clarification on such an important point.  Maybe Eleanor could reply?

Sorry, I can't do that. My answers might be construed as Libel.

However, the ongoing and virtually identical amount given to Operation Grange every six months of recent years, would cover the cost of the salaries of the four Police Officers, plus leave a larger and sizeable amount of money to be used on surveillance.  In My Opinion.

Can anyone suggest an alternative use?

If you could give a breakdown on the rank and salaries of those involved then we could see how much is left.
There again they could be just shadowing the PJ given its their investigation.

I don't know their Ranks.  Does anyone?  But I can't imagine it would cost 157, 000 to shadow The PJ.  And why would they want to anyway?

Because its a Portuguese investigation,or in Hogan Howes words essentially a Portuguese investigation.

What ever you have in mind OG could only observe and point the PJ in that direction.imo.

"t's a Portuguese Investigation."  We all know that, but OG are kept in the loop, I think, so it wouldn't cost 157,000 Pounds every six months to follow that.

Actually, it seems to have shades of a Joint Investigation, but whatever might be going on then I expect that The Portuguese Investigation knows about it and could be contributing to the Servailance,  if there is any.

Thanks for joining in.  It is only a theory which might be worth pursuing.

In my opinion most of the grants would be used for salaries. If there are three detective constables and one sergeant, for example, they would each earn around £45,000 per annum. Six month's salaries for the four would be £90,000. So £154,000 grant minus £90,000 leaves £64,000.

Out of that there are other possible costs such as a contribution to the SIO's salary; travel and subsistence to Portugal, telephone costs; IT support costs;  stationery, room heat and light costs. It depends on how costs are allocated within the Met.

Do we have proof that this is what they earn?
