Wouldn't it have been helpful if like the rogs... The witness statements had been audio recorded. Unfortunately  the PJ were totally unprofessional imo.  They were able to choose exactly what was and wasn't recorded and what was put in the, statements
Totally agree.

Helpful to whom? You would still have been reliant on a written transcript as with the rogatory interviews. No doubt, given your unfounded belief that the Portuguese police were biased against the McCanns you would still have criticised the transcripts.

The Portuguese police WERE biased against the McCanns - one of them even wrote an extremely biased book about them, have you forgotten?

As are you claiming that it is an unfounded belief that the Portuguese were biased against the McCanns.  My proof is Amaral's book (not to mention making them arguidos and therefore their prime suspects) - what's yours that they were not?

Hardly proof of bias  *%87

The Portuguese were well within their right to do what they did given what had transpired.  The changing stories taken with Kate McCann's refusal to answer the simplest of questions did them no favours.  Add to this the information provided by Martin Smith when he said it was Gerry McCann who passed them carrying a young girl.  Then there are the cadaver alerts to clothing laid out in the underground car park. It all adds up logically so little wonder the McCanns became persons of interest.

Far from being biased, I think the Portuguese police were extremely fair handed.  Had the same thing happened in the UK the parents would have been hauled in for questioning much sooner imo.

Amaral's book describes the process of the investigation and it's conclusions up to 10th September. It may have been wrong, but that doesn't mean it was biased. You might as well say Operation Grange were biased when they made those four men arguidos.

I think ant decent police force would have realised taht everytyhing you have psoted amounts to nothing......as the present PJ investigation seems to..

Smith is  a good example of sceptic bias....his calim of 60 to 80 % is accepted as confirmation....the lady who saw maddie at a petrol station was 99% sure it was maddie...yet she is dismissed out of hand...thts plain proof of bias.

My take is that neither is positive confirmation

Amaral describes how he suspected the parents' involvement from day one, before he knew anything about anything apart from that they had left their kids unattended - nor did he appear to have changed his mind at any point during the investigation, or subsequently.  I'd say that was pretty biased.
ETA: and yes, may be Op Grange was biased when it made 4 petty criminals arguidos.  So...?

The Portuguese police treated the McCanns not only with bias but with contempt IMO, abandoning the search for their child after one week, marking sightings (such as the one on the 4th May at Lagos Marina) as "no further investigation required", keeping them in the dark about the investigation, leaking juicy titbits to the paper that seemed to suggest they were guilty of something, etc etc etc.  You may think that's fair and unbiased but I certainly do not!!
