Jane didn't know them as well as the others in the group. So what? She definitely knew the McCanns well.  They had dined out every night together on the holiday sitting at the same table so why would she ignore Gerry? Your argument is nonsense!
4078    “How well, I know you say you’ve been away with them all before and it was the first time you’ve been away with Kate and Gerry, how well did the group of you know each other would you say? And were you very comfortable with each other?”
Reply    “Yeah very, very comfortable. I say Russell err had lived, well he was a student with both Matt and Dave and err and then with Dave and Fiona when they were living together, so, and I mean I’ve known Russell for twelve, I think it’s twelve years now so you know sort of when Russell was living with David and Fiona I was obviously there a lot as well so yes we know those, we’ve known them very well. Obviously we know Rachael as well, Matt’s partner, but again, as I say we’ve been on holiday, we socialise a lot so yeah we’re very good friends. Kate and Gerry again we’d socialise with them, I didn’t know them as well as the others but I mean it was a very comfortable group, so.”

An probably not as well - you don't know probably L

You don't either do you?   I said it was quite likely that Gerry and Jez were talking and looking down the road.   There is no reason for Jane to lie.   We know Jane left the table to do her check,  we know Gerry and Jez were talking together roughly about that time.  So you are saying they didn't?   You are saying Jane didn't see them?  Well how did she know they were talking?   Tell me why she would lie.

Jane added her comments to the typed timeline which was given to the PJ in early May when recollections were fresh. She's quite clear about where the two men were standing. Eleven months later she has moved them to a spot approximately 30 feet south of it. This time she is less sure. She 'thinks' and says 'sort of'; very vague. The only thing she seems sure about is that they 'for sure' weren't right outside the gate.

Jane has never explained why she changed the location of the men. In my opinion she did so because she was influenced by other's opinions. I think her first recollection was the correct one because it was fresh and untainted.

2115: JT leaves table, and sees GM talking with fellow resident ("Jez" Wilkins) outside the patio gate of 5A. The two were standing just up the hill from the gate towards Rua A. da Silva Road. She did not speak to GM as she passed.

I thought they were, as you’re going up here, I thought they were more, erm, again I know this is where me and Gerry differ, but I thought they were sort of more near the little alleyway.  I think sort of”...I don’t think they were by the apartment gate, I thought they were sort of a bit further down, down the road than that”...I don’t think they were right outside the gate for sure.

I'm not really interested in where exactly they were standing,  the fact is they were there talking when Jane passed them.   Why would Jane lie and say that she saw them if she didn't?

I don't think I accused Jane of lying, just of changing her story for reasons unknown. I think her first story was the factual one and it supports the idea that Gerry's check at 9:05 took place using the main door of 5A.

I don't think anyone would care a jot about the finer details of the accounts - if they weren't so pivotal. It matters above just about everything, doesn't it? Getting the facts spot on about the potential encounter with the dude who dunnit? It doesn't jive. That's the problem. It's inconceivable. It might be nobody is lying - so then someone has it fundamentally and irredeemably wrong. The wise money is on Jane being 'at least wrong', because it's two accounts to one.

How does Gerry's check at 9:05 take place using the main door of 5a?   Jane says in one statement she saw them chatting by the patio gate,  the other one further down by the lane, one had his foot on the pavement the other was on the road.  Gerry could have walked down from the patio gate to where the little lane was.

Jane said just up the hill from the patio gate.

I thought the lane was further down.

Jane initially said the men were standing north of the gate.

The men, Gerry and Jez, were standing further down.  They were standing in the road but Gerry had one foot on the kerb/pavement on the bit that is adjacent to the alleyway at the bottom end of 5A garden'

1)     Jane shows this very clearly and very definitely on the Cutting Edge Video

Cutting Edge Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkc3C6csaHI  @ 10.00 ....... especially 10.07 onwards

2)    Jez shows this position over the alleyway very clearly on the map he drew for the PJ.

http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/9of8-ecf89375.gif

The wall corners behind are well rounded and he shows them at the upper side of the alleyway

3.   Amaral himself, on video, shows the spot that Gerry and Jez chatted.  Once again over the alleyway.

Perhaps someone else could provide this video. From memory Amaral positions them in the road/kerb, lined up in the middle of the alleyway entrance.

This has been gone over time and again, as well YOU know, Gunit.

You KNOW the Facts now as recorded on official files or videos ... and even your Guru Goncalo Amaral confirms them.

Will you please NOT keep wasting my time having to research it all yet again.  Never again please.

GERRY and JEZ chatted mainly in the road/kerb of Rua Fransancisco Gentil Martin across the entrance to the alleyway that runs behind 5A = FACT  ............ Amaral, Jane and Jez all confirm this

I'm just pointing out what Jane Tanner said between 4th and 10th May 2007. If it casts doubt on your 'facts' that's her fault, not mine.

It has already been discussed on here and IIRC the conclusion was that *gate* was a bad translation for *doors*.(doors to the Tapas area reception)

I feel sure that you read it because you are very thorough.  Anyway, Gunit, no more going on about where Gerry and Jez chatted, please

With three 'Official' reports including Amarals, I feel sure everyone now accepts that the place where Gerry and Jez chatted was in the roadway/kerb of Rua Francisco M.G = FACT

I wonder why anyone would debate translation errors when the original document TYPED BY DAVID PAYNE IN ENGLISH is in the files?

I think you need to accept THE FACT that what I have said is true, Sadie. Jane Tanner changed her mind!!!!
