Abduction was the only remit SY could legally work upon imo.
There was no evidence anyone had killed or sexually abused Madeleine.
Madeleine was a ward of court and there was no evidence of parental abduction. SY would have been acting in Madeleine's interests, not the parents.

Your last sentence sums up the situation to perfection.  Quite often Madeleine McCann is the most ignored individual ever in all of this.
It is lovely to see you write in recognition that Operation Grange existed ONLY to act in Madeleine's interests and my opinion is that they've carried out sterling work in doing just that.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Your post indicates a bit of a closed mind to the theory which drives your opinion which was debunked in short order immediately the forensic report from the FSS was released.

That constitutes a monumental feat of denial which apparently blinds you to exactly how professional investigators conduct their business in accordance with working to their remit.

Prosecutors announced on Thursday the reopening of the investigation into the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann, after the Judicial Police presented new evidence.
"A note from the Attorney General's Office (PGR) said that the Public Prosecutor 's Office (MP) ordered the reopening of the investigation into the disappearance of the minor Madeleine McCann, according to the criminal procedural law that says that "the investigation can only be reopened if new evidence emerges that invalidate the grounds put forward by the MP in the order of filing" of the case.

The PGR announced on 21 July 2008 that the MP had filed the inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and raised the condition of the defendant to the parents of the English minor and Robert Murat (British who lived in the Algarve), noting that he could reopen the case if "new evidence" emerged, which has now occurred.
Please note, that the work carried out by Operation Grange over the year they had been officially reviewing Madeleine's disappearance, was of sufficient standard to convince them that there were many avenues worthy of investigation and to convince the Portuguese investigative authorities of the validity of reopening the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.

"At the time, it was learned that a group of six officers from the Faro delegation was formed to assist the British unit responsible for the "Operation Grange" of the Metropolitan Police, which is reviewing all the clues related to the case after the intervention of the British Prime Minister, David Cameron.  It seems that the Portuguese were also hand in glove with Grange reviewing the information relating to Madeleine's case in parallel to Operation Grange. So there you have it.  Essentially, two independent reviews utilising the same resources into the same incident concur, one with the other that further investigation is required.

"Portugal was one of 31 countries to which their respective authorities were sent a letter rogatory with a request for assistance regarding elements that the British police wish to see clarified, related to persons or telephone data.   The British police quite obviously went back to basics in their review.  They obviously checked what investigative work had been done.  But more importantly, they carried out checks which had not been carried out in the first instance.  With rogatory letters being sent to thirty one countries, I think that can only be classed as being the result of an exhaustively thorough investigation.

"Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said British police are trying to find the owners of the mobile phones identified as having been in the area and at the time of the disappearance.  That is certainly of interest in the light of current events when one considers that one of those named at that time was Christian Brueckner.

"In June, British police announced the existence of "38 people of interest" who wished to question, including several Portuguese.
They are people who were in a radius of the place of disappearance and who there are reasons to suspect. It takes a little more than circumstantial issues," Redwood explained.
The 12 Britons initially identified have meanwhile joined three more, who are already being investigated, but which the inspector believes will "possibly be eliminated" soon from the list.
Scotland Yard, working on the case for a year, is confident it has found relevant "new information" based on the 40,000 documents and leads collected by police in Portugal, the UK and eight different private detective companies.

Operation Grange used every tool in their box to get results.  Nota Bene that as well as ruling people in, one of their main investigative aims was ruling people out.  Your abduction denial fixation is risible in the extreme when one takes the nature of the multifarious investigative tasks Operation Grange had to perform.

Maddie case: New clues rule out parents' guilt
Rogério Alves, lawyer for the parents of the English child, spoke to Lusa about the reopening of the investigation by the public prosecutor Portuguese and was asked about the possibility that Gerry and Kate MaCann could be again constituted defendants.
"The family has been informed that the new evidence does not indicate the accountability of [Madeleine's] parents," the lawyer said.

It really is well beyond time that sceptics and theorists join the mainstream cache of knowledge built over the years in the Madeleine McCann investigation and accept the fact that not only did Operation Grange fulfil their remit, they did so with style.

I'm sure OG worked to their remit. My interest is in how the remit was arrived at.

Caught in a chicken and egg scenario are you not?  I don't think you have the faintest notion of what a remit is or how one is arrived; and therein lies your problem.

I've got to admit that I am at a loss about the angst some feel as a direct result of the fact that Operation Grange has stuck in there and has been steadfast in working on Madeleine McCann's behalf and in her interests since their inception all those long, weary years ago.

I believe Brueckner only came to the attention of OG when his criminal compadre asked to speak to them after he was arrested in Greece for people trafficking, some 6 years after the founding of the British investigation. If this hadn’t happened who knows if Brueckner would ever have come to Britain’s Finest’s attention.
Brietta posted on 10/04/2022 “But whether or not that is the reason behind the delay I am certain that Brueckner's trial is going to take place.”

Let’s count the months, shall we?

The fact that there are people on here who think that the Files represents the sum total of evidence in this case is absolutely laughable, frankly.  It may have escaped your notice but the files only covers the PJ investigation up to 2008.  There have been thousands and thousands of man hours devoted to the case since then by Portuguese, German and British police, gathering information most of which will not have been put in the public domain, but do carry on believing y’all know everything about everything even if it does make you look like utter clods.

Well this is funny, because 2 years ago sceptics were saying Brueckner wouldn't be charged anytime, we didn't need to see the 'evidence' to figure that one out, and here we are 2 years later, still no charges for Brueckner. Called that one perfectly didn't we.  Utter clods indeed.

OG's remit was to investigate THE ABDUCTION; there's nothing unclear about that. It was written before the evidence they had available had been fully examined and evaluated too.

Remits are not bound by law, so had they fully examined and evaluated the evidence and come to the conclusion that another scenario was more likely what do you think would have happened?  10 years of investigating a scenario that they knew wasn’t supported by any evidence?  Gimme a break.  How many times do we have to go round in circles?

And how are Grange getting on with all the abduction evidence they've spent 10 years gathering?
Much happening is there?

police forces have been for years investigating certain crimes on the Algarve that happened longer ago than the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, namely the rape of Hazel Behan and the break-ins to children’s bedrooms in holiday apartments, without anyone so far coming to justice.   Does it therefore follow that the police have been investigating the wrong crimes all these years and that they actually never happened or were self-inflicted, that their remit was all wrong?  Let me guess:  the answer’s yes right?.   *%87

It means a sinister order from the High Ups which must never be challenged, otherwise you might find yourself falling from the top floor of the police station, if you get my drift, nudge nudge wink wink.

Until you understand how organisations work, you will continue to go round in circles. Who are 'they'? The only 'they' who count are those who feel qualified to express an opinion and those who can act on it. Then the saying "He who pays the piper calls the tune" should be considered.
