When a signal has been picked up by a mast. Not necessarily the same thing as a phone being used as far as I know.

A few days ago, I suddently got switched to a different operator as my normal one was down for some reason. Very kind, but I hadn't even touched it, let alone used it.

I think so, and before.

I seem to recall from the Peter Voisey case that a (weak) part of the evidence against him was that triangulation of his phone placed him in the 'right' area at the right time to have been a candidate as culprit for the abduction of the little girl ...

phone pings dont happen for nothing, someone was making a call or text to her or the other way around, if masts pick up a signal from a phone just because it is,eg in the vicinity,but not active, all the others phones would have been as well,and they werent,  that is how I understand it anyway

The only reference to phone records I can find in the files are type "pings" i.e. mast x was activated by phone y at a specific time. That's not triangulation as far as I understand it.

ETA Link as above - The records the PJ received from the service providers were when the phones had been activated i.e. "SMS-in"; "SMS_out"; "voz_in" and "voz_out".". I.e. only SMS  and phone calls made or received (& I supposed, missed, as those activates your answering service)

The luscious Mrs Chekaya doesn't remember seeing Mrs McCann at the table where she spent 20 minutes, invited for a drink by Mr McCann (female competition ?), but she curiously noted that a chair remained empty all time... She isn't not sure to remember Mr Payne was there.
Besides she remembers meeting Madeleine once or twice... Where ? How would she identify her ?

According to Mrs Fenn the child started to cry at around 22h30, shortly after the cell phone's activity finished.

There were various short period signals, sms seem unlikely (unless the same sms was sent to different persons ?).

On 28th the mobile phone that is owned by Kate Healy makes its first record in Portugal, as already said, on the antenna "Luz Centro 1" and from that date until the disappearance of her daughter it never leaves the coverage area of the antennae of the national operator TMN that serve village where she came to spend a week on holiday.

Admitting [acknowledging] that Madeleine had disappeared between 21:00 and 22:00 [4] on 3rd, it is observed that the last record of the mobile phone of Kate prior to the occurrence [event] occurs at 13:34:53 and the first after the tragic happening was at 23:14:51.

Is there a link to phone listings, as they don't seem to appear in the above pages? Under "Methodology" in the link above, PJ were able to separate between voz in/out & sms in/out. So it should be fairly clear what type of signal it was, if there are indeed original records from the service providers somewhere in the files.

Isn't it amazing, how altering a few little words can suit an agenda?

She remembers that last Tuesday at the end of the quiz, she was invited to the table of nine guests who asked her to join them for a drink.

She had only just met them, so how would she know who Kate was?

When questioned, she said that during the time that she was there Madeleines father did not leave the table, neither did any of the other guests, however, during this time one of the chairs was always empty, that of someone who had had dinner and left

When questioned, she said that she had only seen Madeleine once or twice and had merely said hello to her, no more than that.
