Kate claimed as fact that cadaver odour lasts no more than thirty days, a blatant untruth and one that seems to have slipped by the censors.
As to Amaral not being able to sue Kate that's because, as you yourself have pointed out, lawyers had gone though it with a fine toothed comb before publication and anything libellous would have been taken out. Also you seem to be confusing truthful with non-libellous. They are not the same thing.
Can I also point out that Amaral's book was also a best seller all over Europe, even before the ban, outselling Madeleine in several countries , and quite possibly would have been a best seller here too.
It was not Kate's opinion that cadaverscent lasts only 30 days, it was information she was given by an expert in the field. There is a vast difference.
I'm not surprised Amaral's book was a success, especially in Portugal after the vicious smear campaign he conducted against the McCanns and the way he whipped up the idea that it was a case of the nasty big UK bullying poor little Portugal - but I wonder how many people who read Amarals's book realised from it that he had never met or spoken to the McCanns in his life. I would imagine that little revelation would come as quite a nasty surprise to many - who when they found out, would no doubt be shocked at such dishonesty.
Unless the book on the internet is full of mis-translations, there are claims in there that are untrue and are not confirmed by the PJ files as he claims.
