The carpet squares were contaminated as a direct result of being placed next to a dead body...so what are you on about?

Each body was wrapped in a thin cotton sheet to simulate a layer of clothing and prevent direct contact of the carpet squares with the body.  The carpet squares were passed underneath the buttock of the dead men and close to, but not touching, the body.

Cross-contamination of the carpet squares occurred as a result of cross-transference, demonstrating how easily cross-contamination of a death scent can occur.

As did the PJ when they bundled all the clothes into a few cardboard boxes rather than ensuring that they were all bagged separately.

All the alerts to cadaver odour (where the blood dog did not alert) could have stemmed from one location.

For example had one of the occupants of the apartment in the weeks prior to the dog searches and after the McCanns vacated the apartment recently been in contact with a dead person and stored an article of clothing in the wardrobe where one alert occurred that could very easily have been transferred to McCann clothes also stored in the same wardrobe which were intermingled in the boxes. And there are images of Kate carrying the toy against those clothes. So potentially all the alerts came from the same source. Unfortunately it appears that the PJ never actually contacted the occupants of the apartment. Perhaps the SY team have done so more recently?

Not following here. the carpet squares did not touch the body but absorbed its scent. This is transference AFAIAW, cross contamination involves direct contact of a secondary item with the contaminant.

If a body had lain in 5a either could have occurred

how did you work out that Kate Mccanns clothes, having been removed from flat 5a on May 4 could have been contaminated by someone elses clothes stores in the wardrobe  in 5a weeks or months after?

Just repeating and repeating the same inanity hoping the "mantra" will become real or believed so. Old trick (and perverted meaning and function of the sanskrit mantra).

In what sense are strictly factual statements defamatory?

I don't follow ...

Becuase there are no factaul statements supporting the claim that Grime has or ever has encouraged or cued his dogs.

No statements, maybe, but we have all witnessed it on videos of the dogs working.

How for instance, Grime kept sharply calling his dog back to the Mccann car.  The dog wasn't interested until it realised that it was supposed to alert to the Mccann car after being called back at least four times

The dog was never ordered back to any of the other cars.  Who knows what it might have found on them?

A deeply flawed exercise

Absolutely. It was Prof Harrison's initiative. He had read the reports of all the police forces. He knew the flat had been rented after Madeleine disappeared. He knew also no body's remains had been left behind in the flat.
Posters should realize that starting to doubt the pertinence of bringing the EVRD is in fact suggesting Prof Harrison MBE didn't behave as the highly respected professional he is.

- As I replied to Red, I don't think it was a waste of money and time to bring the dogs over as they might have found physical remains, even a tiny, but vital piece of physical evidence left that the initial forensic officers had missed, so I don't see why the issue of residual scent casts any aspersions on Harrison's professionalism.

- The issue is - in the hypothesis that she had died in the apartment - whether residual scent could still be detected 3 months later in the real-life conditions in PdL. For the reasons I've already explained, I have found no research to support that.

- How could he have known that the apartment had been rented out when the DCCB letter to Amaral, informing him of this, was dated 27 September 2007?

There was every opportunity for some unscrupulous person to plant a substance in the apartment or the hire car so minute that only a dog could detect it.  No wonder Gerry McCann suggested this very scenario.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Of course there was.

The McCann's car was removed from outside of a cafe, by the finger print expert, under the false pretence of a meeting. Then taken god knows where, on the route to Portimao.

And,  why did Grime have to fetch Eddie back 5 times, from barking up the wall in the car park.

To suggest this scenario one had to be very sure Madeleine's body had never been in the rented car.
Anyhow this scenario implied using a real cadaver scent and not the artificial mixture of cadaverine and putrescine volatile molecules that, according to Mr Grime, left Eddie indifferent.

Have you found in the files a proof that Prof Harrison MBE ignored the flat had been rented after the disappearance ?

Does anyone have any evidence to show how long the residual scent lasts?

I can see why the McCanns were suspicious, but that was when they believed that there actually was evidence.

Even if there had been some kind of inexplicable evidence, I find it somewhat unlikely that the PJ would have deliberately gone that far, even if they were desperate to get a conviction. I wouldn't have excluded inadvertent contamination from some source or other, however.
