I have always thought it frankly crazy that people still think the editors of our red tops are just sitting at a phone waiting for Clarence to give them their headline for the day - ludicrous
Interesting choice of word... "ludicrous". Anyhow, the McCann media machine knows they can get a story in the press when they need to. Why this surprises anyone is, in itself, surprising. The timing of this release is not in the slightest bit accidental.
The Express ( and remember this is the paper that paid out 1/2 mil + costs ) will print what they like - If Desmond thought that there was any chance that the McCann's were involved then believe me they would get both barrels
No they wouldn't. Not until/unless they could prove it. "thought that" is beyond doubt, I think he thinks they're both in it up to their eyeballs. Will he print it? not a chance in hell until there is more evidence/proof he can use to defend himself.
I do think that at least SY is getting down to some derailed forensic police work - phone records in todays digital world can reveal a lot - you would be surprised how many crims get caught by being careless with calls - even throw away phone numbers leave a trail
Stupid crims get caught this way, yes. All we have to hope is that said stupid crims made some revealing phone calls/text messages and, more to the point, that the collected evidence of said data is admissible in court. Sadly this is not always the case and with Portugal's odd data collection laws, this may never happen.
Now, to get to what you were talking about - yes throwaway phones leave a trail. Not one that is helpful in any way, shape or form in 99% of cases, but if there was a huge increase in traffic from unregistered phones in the direct vicinity of Praia da Luz at the relevant time then that may indicate something even if it cannot be directly traced anywhere.
will this reveal the culprits - not sure but a little bit closer than last week
Yes indeed.
will this make any diff to the libel l trial - doubt it . The judge doesn't read the express or the forums !!
It can't make any difference to the libel trial! Talk sense. "Stop the trial! The McCanns have made a press release!"
My own prediction on libel trial is that the McCann's will get some hollow victory but no dosh - nominal figure and then both parties walk off claiming victory
It's a possibility that the book could be ruled to have infringed on their civil rights, I agree. There is no way in a month of Sundays that you can separate out the damage they caused themselves from the alleged damage caused by the book alone, nor quantify it.
