What I don't understand is why the press have been briefed,   ten days in advance,  that Scotland Yard will be unvieling a  'new theory'

THEORY  !

What purpose will that serve then  ?

Nearly three years and six million pounds later,  they have a  Theory   ?   ...  in other words,  they don't  'know'  what happened but they are going to announce  (  whilst the investigation is still ongoing  )  what they they think  'might'  have happened

Is that normal protocol for Scotland Yard  ?

Now let me think.

Who was it that had a theory? ... and wrote a book about it, whilst he was still at the helm?

Then immediately published it as soon as he was removed / left the PJ

 A THEORY

A theory ...  in other words,  he didn't  'know'  what happened but he announced  (  whilst the investigation was still ongoing  ) ....  what he thought 'might'  have happened

Seriously blackened the name of a grieving couple with NO proof what so ever.

Made a bomb out of it too .........

That was Ok for Amaral to do, wasn't it , Icabod?

Sadie, if you're going to chuck in abuse about Amaral, that's all fine and dandy and totally your prerogative but it would help if you occasionally got some facts right. Try looking into publication dates of Amaral's book and the archiving summary for a start.

Why don't you publish your theories Sadie ?

Honestly, I'm not taking the mick.

You could then open them up to wider examination. >@@(*&)

You have not addressed the question I posed at all

What purpose will it serve for Scotland Yard to present a  'theory'  that is unproven  ?

You have.  I have told you about them.  Over and over.

Have you forgotten so soon, Anne ?

Eight stranger abductions, one every two years.  Four in a small area around Porto and four in a small area around PdL

What the hell are you talking about?

Maybe after more interviews with certain people, they will be able to prove it.

Let's wait and see, shall we?

Really, I cannot go thru all this again.

This has been gone over at least 5 times on this forum and three times in depth.

I will give you the names tho

Jorge Sepulveda
Claudia Silve e Sousa
Rene Hasse
Rui Pedro
Rui Perriera
Joana Cipriano
Carolina Santos (failed abduction)
Madeleine Mccann

The last three:
Joana, a pretty seven year old vanished just 7 (SEVEN) miles away from PdL, at Figueira ... and 2 years 8 months before Madeleine was taken

Carolina Santos, a pretty little 3 year old, abducted about 18 miles away at Silves  This abduction was thwarted  and Carolina returned to her parents without damage.

THis was under 5 months before Madeleine was abducted.

Madeleine Mccann at PdL, another pretty little almost 4 year old.

All three girls were blond or fair haired, noticeably pretty and seven years or younger.  No other Stranger abductions of under 15 year olds in the whole landmass of Portugal

So three abductions within 18 miles in less than 3 years.  There was a predator around.

Well  I can guess  why Amaral presented his theory   ...  putting the record  straight,  as he saw it,  from his own point of view  (  and making money in the process  )

This business of Scotland Yard presenting an unproven theory, though,   is baffling

I am sure there  must  be  a purpose to it  ...  but I simply can't fathom what it is

Any ideas  ?

OK.

Let's try this.

How many child abductions are there within 18 miles of London, within a 3 year period ?

On a per capita basis.

There is a massive difference between Dr Ameral writing a book after he retired and Dci Redwood broadcasting info on an ongoing investigation.

To answer your question Icabod, I can't think of any that don't involve wild conspiracy theories about the Dr's Mccann influence on the press and SY, which is just so unlikely it's not worth discussing.

It doesn't make a great deal of sense does it?

I don't know anything about the other children on that list but why have you  included Joana Cipriano on it  ?

...  She was not abducted ...  she was murdered by her mother and uncle,  who are currently serving long sentences in prison for the crime

I'm not one for conspiracy theories either Cariad,   but I just can't see what is to be gained by Scotland Yard making public  a  'theory'  that they are still investigating

~

Claudia Silva e Sousa went missing in 1994 in Braga, almost 20 years ago! How you find a connection there?
Rui Pedro was 11 years old and went missing in 1998; Jorge Sepulveda was 14 years old and went missing in 1991 (22 years ago!); Rui Pereira was also 14 years old when he went missing in 1999. You can hardly compare these cases with a 3 year old going missing.

Joana Cipriano was murdered by her mother and uncle and their convictions have been upheld by all of the appeals courts, inclulding the Supreme Court. I suppose João Cipriano's confession and the evidence must have been rather strong.

As for Madeleine McCann there is no evidence to support the abduction theory, so you cannot put her name on the list of abductions. Missing yes.

AFAIK, René  Hassee disappeared on a deserted beach right in front of his parents. Hardly likely an abduction but JMO.

ETA: Regarding Rui Pedro Afonso Dias had always been the main suspect and was convicted and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison on 4 March 2013 for abduction of a minor.

Convicted on TORTURED out evidence = NO EVIDENCE

Nothing there, except TORTURED OUT CONFESSIONS

NO FORENSICS  ... NOTHING

And in a case "solved" by a convicted liar, Amaral ... and another officer Cristavao who is currently up, on 7 (SEVEN) fraud and other charges.  Of course with Cristavao, he has to be considered innocent ... until he has been proven otherwise

So you think this unsafe trial using only tortured out evidence, proves them as murderers, Icabod ?

Something lacking in your cognative perspectives there Icabod.

Thinking cap on, I cabod:
Is tortured out evidence a suitable form of evidence for convicting a person ... or is it a gross miscarriage of Justice?
