I have been trying to work out why now??  Why after more than six long years of basically nothing really have we now got this sudden new initiative involving both the Brits and the Portuguese?

If I were a sceptic I would say that it was timed to coincide with the final days of the McCann - Amaral libel trial because let's face it, it isn't going too well for some people.

Views please??

what is happening now is the result of 2 years of reviews by SY and Portuguese authorities - it is not sudden, but the result of a lot of background work.

You may be right. It really isn't going well for Amaral at all but I don't see how any of this will help him.

The libel trial is going exceedingly well for Amaral and there is no denying that aspect.  The McCanns for their part have failed to produce a single witness who could have spoken to events in Portugal.

But that aside, is it also coincidental that a new Attorney General (a female this time) has been appointed in Portugal?  Could there be much more going on than just wanting to resolve the Madeleine case?  Is this AG out to make a name for herself...has she too joined the bandwagon and is attempting to glorify her stewardship on the back of a missing 10 year old British girl??

Do you really think SY have spent 5 million pounds to scupper the libel trial...bizarre
The most important thing is the search for what happened to Maddie and I think anyone with half  a brain can see now that the initial investigation was poor.
Secondly why are so many people trying to pretend that the libel trial is going badly for the McCanns...same as amaral tried to pretend that the investigation was going badly for the McCanns...what are they afraid of...

Personally I think it's difficult to say how well a libel trial is going. It's too subjective. It's not like there's an online scoreboard we can look at, it's not as if Ronaldo has scored a brace in the last ten minutes.

You may think there is no denying it but others will beg to differ.

You do not have the monopoly on opinion.

Perhaps you do not appreciate that the purpose of the trial is not simply to have "spoken to events in Portugal" whatever that rather odd usage of English might mean.

Perhaps the purpose is simply to show effect which would be the norm for trials in which the focus is the effect of the defamation?

And sorry, I don't subscribe to conspiralunacy in the way your last paragraph suggests.

you only need to read the reports to understand that the argument that mr amaral in someway damaged the search for madeleine is so far from the truth to be laughable.   the mccanns ran away home when the going got tuff and that is what damaged the search for madeleine.  they abandoned her in her hour of need and shame on them for doing so.

ps  and now they want to blame someone else.

Your post makes no sense...look at the red highlight

As far as I am concerned the trial is going very bad for amaral..from what I have read...none of his pals/witnesses have read his book

Have you?
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

I have read his book, watched his documentary video and also read/watched a lot of his media performances.

My view of the trial (from what has been reported) is that he has conceded libel and the only matter before the court is the level of damages - hence the type of witnesses that are being heard.
