I think all attire which covers a woman from head to toe is an affront.
It is easy to dress modestly without draping yourself in a shroud but I don’t think it is about that.
Nor do I think it is about religion.
I think it is a statement being made; an opinion which I base on the number of women who adopted it immediately after 911.
Good points.
I think in some instances it is worn to intimidate and antagonise rather than religious observance. I would liken this to the Orange order marches in NI which imo are carried out, in part, to incite.
Muslim men wear robes (don't know the name) but no face covering and the outfits are not all black. I bet they get through a lot of Daz in Saudi Arabia - their robes always look so white

What's the significance if anything of the colours. Burkas seem to come in black or a medium blue.
It is natural to mistrust another when the face is hidden especially in a secular country. Organisations spend millions on training in body language/facial expressions to improve communication.
Bluewater shopping centre in Kent banned the wearing of hoodies as it was seen as threatening/intimidating so I don't see why it is necessary to pussy foot around with the burka.
