As a footnote to what has happened, has it been ever referred to on Sky, the B.B.C., etc., that Amaral  claimed he had received death threats in Portugal from various people, at a trial for libel against Correia ?

Again to reiterate, threats of any kind are completely and irrevocably unacceptable from whatever source.

Well said, Mr Summers, who has himself together with his wife, been on the receiving end of a month of venomous and vitriolic vilification. Imagine what 7 years of it must do to a person?

Does anyone seriously think that Amaral or Tony Bennett or Pat Brown or Joana Morais or any high profile "sceptic" has had to put up with the sheer torrent of hatred and abuse suffered by the McCanns for the last seven years? Are there FB pages with 30,000 members stuffed full of photoshopped images of any of these characters?  Do they get followed into shops by stalkers?  Are their children's pictures plastered all over the net and pored over by god knows who?  Do they have people threatening to visit their homes, their kids schools?  Have they been the subject of a continual stream of violent threat and intimidation?  Are they accused on a daily basis of the most serious and offensive crimes imaginable?  If so, then let's be seeing the dossier on abusive McCann supporters.  Bring it on!

Actually, rather appropriately your and Alfred's last post quite reflect the hatred shown to Amaral.

A man who was coordinator of the case in Portugal for a short period, and whom you would never of heard of if the mccanns  hadn't 'lost' Madeleine.

In her book Kerry Needham details instances which caused her distress ... Ben vanished before the internet was available to be misused in wicked campaigns such as that suffered by the Drs McCann; otherwise it is my opinion it is probable she would have recieved similar treatment.

A journalist detailed some of it as follows when Kerry's book was released ... unfortunately I have lost the link ...

they neglected him;
Kerry was an unfit mother;
they lived like hippies and Gypsies;
they pretended to be poor but had a lot of money and two houses.

Had there been any evidence for these rumours and I had ignored it, my affection for them would have been seen as compromising my integrity.

The family were at first prime suspects and interrogated for hours by the police in Kos.

In 1996, the police showed me the Needham file.
There was no evidence lending credibility to the gossip, although there was a statement made against Kerry by someone she thought of as a friend, saying she had been with him the night Ben vanished.

I asked her about it.

She was with her family searching all night – she had alibis proving what he said was a lie.
Why he did that remains a mystery.

Three years ago I was writing about the family for Granta magazine.
A British journalist told me he believed Stephen had accidentally killed Ben on his motorbike that day, and Chris had hidden his body.
I challenged Chris. She asked me with bitter humour if I could see her doing that and lying for 19 years to her daughter, her ... "

Marcos Aragao Correia told me himself that he received death threats.

Haven't bothered reading this forum for a while, but just popped in to say waht brilliant news all this is!

The look on that silly woman's face when Brunt confronted her on Sky News was priceless. Hopefully the worst of the idiots will be rounded up and prosecuted now. About time. I suspect many of them are trembling with fear right now.

It isn't just Facebook and Twitter users either, but also includes Amazon posters, apparently.
