From Admin.

'It was correctly pointed out on another thread (posts since incorporated here) that there have been instances of abuse from both sides. I fear this is a much wider problem which is not unique to the McCanns.  The government has summarily failed to tackle this problem and as we saw on a Channel 4 documentary last night, it is being left to private individuals (vigilantes) to police the internet for abusers.'

Haven't bothered reading this forum for a while, but just popped in to say waht brilliant news all this is!

The look on that silly woman's face when Brunt confronted her on Sky News was priceless. Hopefully the worst of the idiots will be rounded up and prosecuted now. About time. I suspect many of them are trembling with fear right now.

It isn't just Facebook and Twitter users either, but also includes Amazon posters, apparently.

Great stuff!  8@??)(
Amazon should clamp down hard on that handful of hideous h8ers on the Kate McCann page now, if they have a shred of common decency (which is doubtful tbh).

I fear the police have neither the time nor the resources to do what is necessary.  I happened to see the Ch4 documentary mentioned and it was very clear that the police would rather warn off those exposing the abuse than go after the perpetrators.  The bottom line is the former can be dealt with by a letter while the latter requires real resources and manpower.

Actually, rather appropriately your and Alfred's last post quite reflect the hatred shown to Amaral.

A man who was coordinator of the case in Portugal for a short period, and whom you would never of heard of if the mccanns  hadn't 'lost' Madeleine.

It is not his work as a coordinator of the case that has exposed Amaral to critisism.

It was his (highly unusual) decision to write a book about the case, to line his pockets at the expense of a missing little girl and her parents.

The 'hideous' nature of some posters is clearly palpable in you Alfred.

It is present in many of your posts.

and don't pretend  mccann supporters exhibit hate towards those who don't believe the mccanns.

You seem unable to understand people can't agree wityh you, and that is very, very sad.

Who else wrote books and received money from them ?

A will by those in power to want to do something and the resources to do it.  As far as I can see neither will be forthcoming any time soon.

Quite a few.  Amaral is the only one, as far as I know, who is directly libellous towards the McCanns.

Do you think it is acceptable for an ex policemen to abuse his position as use a book to carry on a case he has patently failed to prosecute?  Who needs due process when you can act as judge and jury.

To save you the trouble of saying it - Kate McCann also wrote a book - giving her story.  Her book, her story, and the money from it went into the fund.  Not to her.

And then the Summers and Swann book.  I do actually agree with you on this one - another example of authors cashing in on a high profile case.

S and S, of course.

The mccanns, which we are told went to the fund, which of course is now redundant.

Ben vanished before the internet was available to be misused in wicked campaigns such as that suffered by the Drs McCann; otherwise it is my opinion it is probable she would have recieved similar treatment.

So.....the internet is here now....... & Ben is still missing....

Still no one trolls her do they (I)?

The McCanns get trolled because their story doesn't ring true.

Don't be so silly ... the Needham family received unwarranted comment and attention fuelled by exactly the same suspicions that have made the McCann family 'fair game' to some.

Please try to understand ... the fault does not lie with the people who are the subject of the abuse ... it lies with the trolls dishing it out ... it is unacceptable and no-one should be taking it upon themselves to be judge and jury on people they really know nothing about.

This investigation is long overdue and when it is finished I hope it gives anyone thinking of trolling other people pause for thought to do something constructive for a change ... for example, an affordable donation to Missing People or another charity of their choice.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

In the absence of resources to cover all things where do we think the investigation of potential verbal abuse offences by a few raving nutters on the likes of Facebook and tw..ter should fit into the general scheme of things and where would you place it in the priority list?
One does hear that the abuse is not restricted to the McCann case or is it the consensus that the McCanns are a special case warranting resources the others do not?

Fortunately its up to the met...and I will respect their decision. In my view not taking action will open the floodgates...online bullying and abuse  is a big problem and will get worse if nothing is done about it. I speak as  a victim of online abuse.

Abuse is one thing but stalking and threats of violence are an entirely different matter.  Some on the blue forum should take note.
