Julie's lawyer agreed a deal with the newspapers pre verdict in order to get them off their backs. Whether Julie ever signed anything pre verdict is another question which only she or her lawyer can answer.
He was negotiating a deal pre-verdict. He told Julie signing a deal would get the press off her back. That is not really true though so whether he was lying to her or she simply misunderstood who knows.
In any event, there is no evidence that she signed the deal before the trial ended and more importantly there is no evidence to suggest she made up the story in order to get a deal. That is the key issue in relation to the book deal and it is always ignored because there is nothing at all to suggest she made up anything in order to get a paid gig in the papers.
The argument is essentially the deal was made pretrial and the Jury thus should have been told about the deal so they could decide whether to believe she made up the things she said on the stand in exchange for being paid for her story. The defense wanted to use that in order to get a new trial and second bite at the apple but they could not establish she signed the deal prior to testifying.
It would effectively be getting a second bite at the apple for free even though the issue at hand is meaningless and the jury would not have decided that she made up things to get the press to pay her for her story. Ask Jeremy supporters to explain what she made up because she wanted a press deal and they will not be able to even posit anything let alone offer any proof.
