John Blacksmith writes: #McCann s are going to settle on  Amaral's terms & that means it's the beginning of the end of six years of lies....

So Blacksmith lied

Was Blacksmith involved in the court proceedings ?

Thankfully he did not settle which may very well make him liable for both sides legal fees.....blacksmith said the mccanns would settle on amarals terms...he lied

Then you will have to take that up with Blacksmith.

Meanwhile Kate, via their webmistress, claimed that they had not sought to settle the action. She lied.

That pursuit has failed. The McCanns are going to settle on Amaral's terms and that means it's the beginning of the end of six years of lies and deception. No, I can't evoke even a touch of sympathy for them: they have acted wickedly and now they are going to pay.

The McCanns sought a settlement with Amaral. If he had accepted, the suit would have been settled on his terms. Is that rosa,ly so hard to get your head around ?

it would not have been settled on his terms...are you suggesting amaral could have dictated the terms of settlement ...ridiculous

Offline Mr Gray

What?  This is completely nonsensical.  Blacksmith explicitly predicted the McCanns would have to pay Amaral which was a load of old cobblers.  As if the McCanns would ever sought that option.  I've never heard such rubbish.

Of course. He was in a position of strength as his refusal to settle proves.

You believe the McCanns had a strong case which would bring into the fund a cool 1.2 mi,lion euros. Money, let's not forget, to fund the 'search. Why would they attempt to settle if they believed they were on to a sure thing ?

It's quite simple to those with some legal knowledge...even if the mccanns win..they could not guarantee amaral would have to pay costs....by trying to reach  a settlement they have ensured amaral will be liable for their costs...happens all the time...courts really don't like having their time wasted

If I were seeking confirmation that today's result was anything other than good news as far as Madeleine McCann's family is concerned ... it is contained in the posts from one or two posters which become more and more distracted as realisation begins to penetrate.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

in the UK the person being sued will try to seek an out of court settlement with the plaintiffs. If the plaintiffs refuse and the ultimate settlement is less than the defendant offered then the plaintiff can be made to pay the costs of both sides.

But we are talking about Portugal not the UK and the McCanns are the plaintiffs.
