What for?  They believed that he was soon to be reunited with his pot of gold, but they got it wrong.  They couldn't bear to see their hero thwarted, hence the collecting of alms to ensure that he has no excuse not to fight the good fight once more.
But people were donating to PJGA long before the gofundme appeal started.

What for? To pay his lawyers. People knew for a long time there were people trying to raise funds for him. Funds were obviously needed and people knew it, but nowhere near this much was ever raised before.

Not much of a cult is it?

And there was me thinking you were here for Justice 4 Maddie *&*%£

I have always been open about why I am here. Some don't believe it, some find it bad form, some don't give a toss.
Define justice for Maddie.

Ok, but that's another reason why people will be supporting GA: there was a big award made against him, but nothing against the film producers, TV channel or book publisher.

Can Amaral be blamed for the actions of VC Filmes/VC Multimedia? The judge may have found the above point proved but then didn't make those companies pay anything anyway. Everything fell on Amaral alone, guaranteeing that he would get sympathy.

Obviously they were unable to make the proposed programmes because of the court case ... and it certainly looks to me as if they were preparing to flood the market for at least a five year period ... and I am sure Mr Amaral would have had his cut of the proceeds and would no doubt have been a main contributor to future videos, just as he was in the first one ... all because he had been the lead investigator in Madeleine McCann's case.
If people think he deserves sympathy ... I think it may be misplaced.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

You're better off posing that question to those who use the phrase as one of their "sceptic" mantras.  And I know exactly why you are here, I was being sarcistic (that's Kentish dialect for sarcastic btw).

It has to be remembered that being a cult and having a cult following are two completely different things.

A cult following is a group of fans who are highly dedicated to a specific area of culture. A film, book, musical artist, television series or video game, among other things, will be said to have a cult following when it has a small but very passionate fanbase whereas a cult is a religious or social group with socially deviant or novel beliefs and practices.

Which is it?

I think it depends very much on the amount of evidence there is to hand ... and at the moment the weight and content of the comments on the GFM pages is illuminating when considering cult like behaviour.

Brought to mind by the portrait with the rays emanating from the head ~ am I correct in remembering under the banner of "Go get Em Goncalo" ... an Amaral head superimposed on a bulldog body with a spikey collar ~ or has it all become too much for me?

Yes and whilst we're on the subject perhaps you can tell me why it's alright for you to have a highly provocative signature line, but not me?

I wasn't aware you did but in the interest of harmony I have edited it.

Back to topic.  In my opinion the McCanns have every bit the cult following of Goncalo so where does Maddie fit into all this?
