They have accepted that they did wrong and made a huge judgement error. Young children should never be left alone for any length of time under any circumstances.

Kate doesn't refer to it as 'wrong' though, she doesn't answer that question.The most she admits to is a mistake and she doesn't admit to that unequivocally. In my opinion it was definitely wrong, and a responsible parent would never have done it. Actions speak louder than words;
But she admits it was a decision that torments her with every waking moment. "We've doubted what we did," Kate says.
"It's hard to answer the question, 'Were we wrong to leave them?' If I'd had to think for one second, 'Should we have dinner and leave them?' I wouldn't have done it.
