A certain poster is trying to suggest that after a thorough examination of 5a and possible ways in which Madeleine could have left the apartment Rebelo plumped for abduction. This, of course, is absolutely untrue. Lest we forget it was Rebelo who forged ahead with the rogatory interviews and strived with all the authority bestowed on his rank to bring the McCanns and their friends back to Portugal for a reconstitution. Now does that really sound like a police officer who has ruled the main protagonists out ?
Did Amaral ever submit any ILORs? I haven't found any in the files.
The only ones that I've found were from Rebelo's tenure, which, as I'm sure you'll agree, were prior to the archiving.
I'd never worked out why Amaral and co., as seasoned officers, didn't organise a reconstruction while the main protagonists were there....
There were mumblings about the press and not wanting the group to realise that they were suspects. Okay. But would the group have realised at the time what the PT version was aimed at? Probably not. They would have probably thought that it was genuinely to work out the prospective timeline for an abductor to have been in the area and to appeal to the public.
However... the PT press would have been fully aware of João Cipriano being filmed, in dubious circumstances leading up to it, attempting to demonstrate how to chop up a child with a saw that was never found and presenting it as evidence in what may be one of the most bizarre cases in PT recent history.
In context, I'm not entirely surprised that the early "reconstruction" idea in the McCann case wasn't considered to be a bright idea from the PT view of previous history.
