Kate's aunt (Brian Healy's sister) is Madeleine's godmother. She currently lives in Vancouver, Canada and has given interviews to CTV.ca. "When Madeleine's godmother and great aunt Nora Healy was asked about the Portuguese police operation, she raised her eyebrows and said: "Well, it upped a gear when the British ambassador arrived."
 
She is best remembered for her phone interview where she said, "There was six of them together, and there was a neurosurgeon, an anesthesiologist, there was six medical professionals. If there'd been an accident, (A) if it was accidental and they were doing something bad, THEY COVERED IT ... could have covered it up. If it was accidental, they'd have taken care of it.."
 
She also said in the phone interview that was quickly removed 'They were unlucky they hired the same car as the abductor'
 
Norah Paul was visiting her relatives in Skipton from her home in Vancouver when Madeleine went missing. Michael Wright then drove her to Liverpool to meet the Healys and all four flew to PDL on 4th May. Sue Healy and Nora Paul were photographed arriving together at the Mark Warner complex.

Norah Paul, the aunt of Kate and godmother to Madeleine, told CTV on Friday that the allegations are baseless. She described the parents and their three children as a happy family.

"It is absolutely ridiculous to even be able to talk like that knowing our Kate and knowing how desperately they wanted children and the work she went to get children, the IVF (in vetro fertilization)," said the Vancouver resident.

"When Madeleine came along, it was the answer to all their prayers and they just loved their kids. I was with them just before they went to Portugal, and they were just a very happy family unit."

Wonder why there wasn't more made of what Nora Paul is alleged to have said ... we heard plenty about 'jemmying' after all.
Maybe this was the birth of another myth which didn't quite make it into the doubters' lexicon.

"She also said in the phone interview that was quickly removed" ... removed so quickly no-one has ever heard of it.

I think this one could quite safely be consigned to the same waste bin as the receipt for a new fridge.

"And then our Kate went up and Madeleine wasn't there," she said. "The windows were flying open and the curtains, and she knew that wasn't right. Then the panic went up and that was it."

Kate and Gerry McCann, devout Catholics, have also visited with the pope.
"She gave him a picture of Madeleine, and he took it and stroked it and blessed it," said Paul. "It was quite wonderful."

The couple, both 40, had stayed with Kate's aunt, Norah Paul - who explained how the holiday meant one agonising hurdle was now behind them.

Norah, sister of Kate's dad, said after waving off the McCanns: "They had a lovely time, very relaxing. It was all about them getting away.

"They really enjoyed being away from the spotlight. We spent a lot of time at the beach. The beaches here are beautiful." Norah's daughter and neighbours who got to know Kate and Gerry during their stay were also at the airport.

It was Norah, who emigrated to Canada several years ago, who had a key role in persuading the McCanns to take their first holiday since Madeleine vanished.

Norah - originally from Liverpool, like Kate - spoke up in support of the couple after they were named as official suspects by Portuguese police.

During their stay in Canada the family are also believed to have met up with vicar's wife Susan Haynes-Hubbard.

Her husband is minister at the church in Praia da Luz where the McCanns prayed each day. Canadian Susan became a tower of strength to Gerry and Kate in the days after Madeleine went missing from the family's holiday apartment.

Another factor in the McCanns' choice of holiday destination was the sheer vastness of the country around Vancouver - which promised them much-needed peace and quiet.

Vancouver is the capital of British Columbia - four times the size of the UK and marked by dense forests, miles of rugged Pacific coastline and views of the snow-capped Rockies.

It is thought Vancouver's Kitsilano beach became one of the family's favourites.
