The best laid plans of mice and men etc?

IMO the fact that the window/shutters were closed when the police arrived and none of the group claimed to have seen them open is clear evidence that there was NO plan by the McCanns and/or their friends to lie about how they found the windows in order to convince the PJ that an intruder had broken in.

Either that or the McCanns and their friends(if they were in on it)  were all as thick as two planks and didn't realise that by closing the window/shutters before the police arrived -  they were actually destroying their own plan.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

DW didn't see any window open when Kate was alone with the twins. Kate repeatedly told her she found them open so DW went outside and tried to raise the shutters but she couldn't. They twisted and got stuck as seen in crime scene photos. Let's stick to the facts.

Look at Payne's mess of an answer about the window/shutter (when he first entered with the McCanns after the alarm was raised). It was pointed out to him the window open but not the blind/shutter. He finds it so difficult to answer a simple question (down it's open WTF). Better keep an eye on that one  8(0(*

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

We have been told two pertinent points abut that night.

1. They were in a state of panic.

2. They were able to sit down and write timelines on scraps of paper.

Now that sounds like a pair of mutually exclusive events.

Remember too that they were all drinking earlier to various degrees.

KM stated that she discovered the shutter and window open at 10pm.
She did not state what time they had been opened.
They could have been opened just 2 minutes before she arrived at the apartment.
In that case they would have been shut during all the previous checks.

But she changed her statement. That's the point

The innocent ones would have been drinking. Anyone involved needed to be on the ball.

Why the big panic to sit down and account for their movements?  You could be forgiven for thinking they were worried about their lack of childcare arrangements.

If the open window/shutters was a major part of a cunning plan by the McCanns  and was intended to be their (only) evidence that someone had entered 5A - don't you think they would have made sure the window/shutters WERE still open when the police arrived? - or at least pre- arranged with one or more of their friends to say they had definitely seen them open immediately after Madeleine disappeared (if you believe their friends colluded with them)?

Why would Gerry destroy his own plan to convince the police that a stranger had broken into Madeleine's bedroom?

That makes no sense to me.

It would depend how much their friends knew at that time. As to the window it still being open wouldn't have proved it was open when Kate entered the room so it would prove nothing either way.

Did Sherlock paint his toenails blue?

Since you don't like huge closets Misty here is a much smaller one for you
Do you think there is room in there to hide from a burglar?

Most definitely there is enough room in that cupboard for a young child to hide - but the cupboards were all checked.

Without being able to explain what happened after Madeleine may have hidden, she may as well have been under her bedcovers cowering at the noise of the abandoned burglary attempt.
Not buying it at all. If the PJ wanted to, they could have stitched up a couple of burglars early days, case closed.

My fifth trip to Praia da Luz ...

Your theory makes no sense. How can Jane see the abductor with long hair and the Smiths see the same abductor with short hair (and both seen going in opposite directions). How can he open a window and run to Madeleine. Did he ignore and run through the twins in their cots? But I would love to see a reconstruction.

I too would love to see a reconstruction primarily because it would mean that a perpetrator had been apprehended and spilled the beans.
There is nothing further that can be gleaned from the innocent victims and witnesses to this crime.  Only those who committed it know what their timeline was ... what motivated them ... and what they did with Madeleine once they had removed her from the apartment.

Heri has noted that the burglar may have had an accomplice ... so the same child could easily have been seen being carried by two different men in two different locations by different witnesses.

There is also the possibility that a prearranged handover took place. Think outside the box of the 'parents dunnit' ... there are so many more probabilities worth considering than that.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

The truth revealed itself to me so let's see how good HOLMES really is.

Modified to remove innuendo considered libellous

Two involved were inside the apartment between 9 and 10. How is that libel Brietta? Two inside an unlocked apartment could be anyone. Who was moving doors at different times? A ghost?
