Then work out the power it consumes in cutting a key which will be less than the motors plated power then use any countries price per kWh and you will find the energy to cut a key is practically FA.
So in the real world what would happen would be the sum of about 500 euros would be bunged in as lump sum to do the key cutting bit including buying the machine, a few blanks and power costs. Quite why you would want to buy your own key cutter is a bit beyond me. Some one who buys a key cutter will be remembered whereas someone having a key cut in the PT version of Timsons will be virtually unnoticed. But hey don't let little things like reality get in the way of a good conspiracy.

Receptionists, booking and office staff had probably got access to keys, but less of an excuse to take them off the office premises. Agreed ridiculous and no evidence to support any of it except for my theory of course which fits with everything that happened. I've got no doubts. Everything has been investigated except the last one. There's only one!

A cleaner need not even be aware. Keys can be nicked, copied and put back in a handbag or jacket pocket and the cleaner would never notice a thing.

There is also the potential issue of guests leaving a key under a doormat for fellow guests.

I do have knowledge in this area having purchased my own key cutting machine for personal use some yeras ago...so I am speaking from experience

No one seems to have asked where the cleaner had lunch. Keys left in a jacket on a hook in a café over lunch would be easy. In any case, everybody and their brother apparently knew the access code to the key box, so keys could have been nicked any time.

I don't know whether the McCanns left the key under a mat, but I would have thought it would have been mentioned somewhere if they had. We don't know whether previous occupants did or not.
