I don't know what Rebelo's thinking was in December 2007, but he hadn't made any move to lift the McCann's arguido status. Kate McCann made it quite clear in her letter what her opinion was;

what work is being done to help find our daughter etc.....when I discovered that Madeleine had been taken......It would be good for Madeleine if we could all work together to help find her and the person(s) who took her.
http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/LETTER_KATE_MCCANN.htm

Given her continuing insistence on only one possible scenario I don't see quite what reply Rebelo could have made unless he shared her opinion as to what had happened.
So you think completely ignoring the letter was the correct course of action to follow do you?

Very funny.  The difference though is the Kate McCann was the mother of the missing child whose disappearance they were investigating.  SIL is - who exactly?  As far as the Met are concerned she or he is.....(I daren't say for fear of further sanctions).

Kate McCann was arguida in the investigation into her missing child.

Exactly. She was an integral part of the case, unlike some people.  Surely she deserved an acknowledgement of her letter at the very least, even if it was a "sorry, we can't divulge any information but rest assured we're doing everything we can" letter?

To achieve that the abductor would have to have been waiting to pounce immediately Gerry left the apartment.  I don't buy it because too many people were wandering around.  I believe Maddie got out after the 9.30 check when nobody was around to help her.

IIRC  when SY became almost certain that Tannerman was an innocent tourist the 'window of opportunity' for an intruder to enter 5A was extended from the original time period to cover the time you mention.  So an abduction could have happened at that later time.

If there was enough time for Madeleine to leave the apartment and disappear on her own -  unseen by anyone  -  then she could also have left the apartment at the hands of an abductor(s) and disappeared into a car - unseen by anyone,

IMO

Jez and Jane could remember but Gerry got it wrong.

The whole idea of a reconstitution is to check movements and find flaws in witness statements especially when those witnesses are suspects.

But how can you check individuals' movements without having accurate times of those movements to begin with?

JT thought she left the table between 5 and 10 mins after Gerry.  It only takes 30 secs to walk to 5A's gate.    What if she guessed wrong and went too soon.    Gerry could still be in 5A when she arrived at the spot where she saw him talking to Jez.      What would the PJ have made of that?

And how would any of it demonstrate the McCanns innocence as claimed by the AG???

How by retracing their steps from 5.00p.m. to 11.00p.m. could the McCanns or anyone else- demonstrate that they were innocent?     I ask again - what was the crime ( or crimes) that according to the AG - a recon would  prove they were innocent of?

Not that I am reading anything into this you understand because the full tale is yet to be confirmed one way or another, however the article linked refers to "disappearance". It furthermore says some people believe her parents had some thing to do with it and others believe she was abducted.  I guess the investigative journalist was not very diligent as I would have thought it would have been said "two polices forces believe she was abducted", assuming what we read on here is true.

Maddie ‘ghouls tour’ causes outrage

IN NEWS · 06-10-2016 13:50:00 · 0 COMMENTS
Controversy has exploded over free customised ‘ghouls tours’ being offered by a British expat, incorporating key locations in Praia da Luz that are linked to the Madeleine McCann case.

According to the unidentified individual’s blog, three tours have already been carried out since March this year and a fourth is in the planning, with options for wet and dry weather.

Locations that can be visited on the tailored tours include Ocean Club apartment 5A, from where Madeleine McCann vanished on the night of her disappearance, the Tapas restaurant area, the spots of reported sightings of children being carried, Luz beachfront, the Bravura dam, and the scrubland where Operation Grange police digs took place in 2014.

Tour number four will, according to the blog, “start from a smallish, well kept Portuguese home in the centre of Burgau” with the possibility of visiting “one of the local hostelries.”

A report in The Mirror published this past weekend broke news of the tours and claimed the “gruesome” visits are organised by a “British grandfather in his 60s” with an “obsession with Madeleine McCann.”
According to the tabloid, the parents of missing Madeleine, Kate and Gerry McCann, are said to be “distressed” at the free tour.

News of the tours has been received with a barrage of criticism and a backlash against the “appalling” idea.
According to The Mirror, an expat who lives in the area told them: “This is in appalling taste. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it.
“This is totally uncalled for. A little girl going missing should not be made into a game or a challenge.”
In comments to the tabloid, another of the Mirror’s sources described the anonymous guide as being “hung up” on the case; “The guide is obsessed with Maddie. He’s written thousands of words about the case and pored over maps, photographs and police transcripts”, they elaborated.

Speaking to The Portugal News, David Thomas, founder of crime prevention and awareness association, Safe Communities Portugal, commented: “Unfortunately for some people the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has become an uncontrollable addiction (...) Of all the twists and turns in this case, this is undoubtedly the most sickening and the ultimate in bad taste.
“Whoever the person is should reflect on how distasteful his actions are, and the lack of respect to the family, friends as well as the community in Praia da Luz. I am not surprised that he acts under a cloak of anonymity - at least at present!”

In response, writing on his blog, the organiser has dismissed The Mirror’s piece, deeming it “sloppy” and “pathetically cheap journalism.”
Regarding an “obsession with the case” and choice to remain anonymous, in the recent blog post the unnamed guide states “anyone can read my blog and make up their own mind as to whether I am putting myself before Madeleine or whether Madeleine is the priority. Those who know me well will also know that I publish on one of the more popular forums devoted to finding out what happened to her. Between my blog and that forum, a considerable amount of progress has been made. That progress would increase if these findings were read by the McCanns, serious UK media reporters, and Operation Grange.”

Madeleine McCann went missing from the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Lagos, on 3 May, 2007, shortly before her fourth birthday.

I see Hoffman's version has evolved in a manner that tells me all I need to know about her 'reporting'.

It seems now that I get visitors inside 5A.  The nearest I have been to 5A is Rua Martins, which of course is a public road running down the east side of block 5.

And allegedly I get visitors inside the Tapas restaurant.  I would need to check to be certain, but AFAIK the Tapas restaurant had closed before we got to Portugal.  I do know for certain that I have never been inside the Tapas zone.

And Hoffman claims I have been obsessed with this case since 2007.  The reality is I didn't give a fig about this case in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 (when Kate's book came out, but I neither knew about nor cared about it) 2012, 2013 (I did watch the Crimewatch 'live' as there was nothing better on telly).  That takes us to June 2014 when we had the farce of the SY dig of central Luz, and from then on, yes, I have been interested.

Does that make Hoffman wrong on every substantial point?  I can't be bothered to re-check.

It does go to show you can cobble together anything you like and stick it out there as 'journalism'.

They are digging for Ben Needham as a result of information received.

Your constant derogatory reference to Scotland Yard digging in Luz perplexes me.  You are not privy to the intelligence which prompted the digs or the areas chosen to search ... but you can bet your bottom dollar that Scotland Yard knew exactly what they were doing.

I think we knew that.
I cannot speak for you or what you are doing but if one is on the inside of something and knows what is making the clock tick in that particular manor then the efforts of some self styled investigative journalists is laughable in the extreme. Then of course what to make of those who believed the journalists and spouted their veracity ?
I will steer clear of this case as it so divisive and refer everyone to late 1980s early 1990s wing ding involving arms to Iraq, Matrix Churchill/Forgemasters and several associated companies. The invetsigative journalism for that ranked with the Beano and Roy of The Rovers. Is there any evidence to suggest it has improved in the wider realm?

I can bet my last Euro that they didn't, and I care not a jot about any information they received that I am not privy to.

The info that made the dig a waste of time is documented in the PJ Files, but sitting in their secure bunker in Belgravia, they didn't know how to interpret it.

Why you constantly tout OG as a fine effort, in the absence of evidence, perplexes me.

There is no evidence whatsoever that OG first investigated the T9 before coming up with a remit that rules them off limits.  Would, should, ought to, surely - none of these count as evidence.

There is no evidence whatsoever that, the dig apart, OG has ever visited the incident scene.  Would, should, could, might have - none of these count as evidence.

There is no evidence that OG got all the substantive details correct in Crimewatch 2013.  Redwood still had Smithman going the wrong way.  Quite possibly because he has never visited the Smith sighting.  And I am aware that Redwood has allegedly visited Martin Smith on a further 2 occasions, so he should have information to which I am not privy.

There is no evidence that OG got the June 2014 dig right.  Indeed, quite the opposite.  They learned it is hard to dig a hole in Luz.  Other than that, it is reported in the media that they got nothing.

There is no evidence that they have progressed the 4 arguidos or the 10 witnesses interviewed in 2014.

The decision by Nicola Wall to radically down-size the operation suggests that most enquiries have led nowhere.  As to whether the remaining officers make some sort of progress, I am happy to wait and see.
